I live in Japan, and I don't think many Japanese people actually name their children after gods.
Only looks well in Japanese, in Latin alphabets, it’s I’m a nazi backwards….
I think it’s very lovely and beautiful. The story is interesting.
It's lovely. Weird legend though. Can you imagine giving birth to the fire god and living? I can't.
Pretty but reminds me of the word “Tsunami” which is a big wave.
Izanami is also the mother of Amaterasu, the Japanese Sun Goddess, who is the main deity of the Japanese Mythology and of the Shinto religion. The Japanese Emperors are believed to be descended from Amaterasu.
The story of Izanami is a lot like the story of Orpheus going down in hell to retrieve his love (sorry, can't think of her name at the moment). Izanami dies, and Izanagi goes to hell to get her. Both men go down and both look back to their loves, eventually losing them because they looked back. It really makes you think. Anyway, after Izanagi left and sealed the portal to hell (or something along those lines) Izanami became the goddess of the underworld.
