Meaning & History
Possibly derived from Ancient Greek λαός (laos) meaning "people" combined with either μένω (meno) meaning "to stay, wait, remain, last" or μένος (menos) meaning "mind, strength, courage". This was the name of one of the fifty (or fifty-one) grandsons of Thespius fathered by Heracles in Greek mythology, his mother being Oreia.
