I think this is quite a charming name as others have mentioned. It has that distinct royal charm that many other names might not have. It even appears very respectable when written down.
Makes me think of a charismatic yet calm man with an affable personality.
This name has royal vibes. I LOVE it!
Was given the middle name 'Louis' after my grandfather, so I am a bit biased in saying that it's a nice name. (Regardless of pronunciation, since that seems to be a point of contention here.)
It's fine, and the best variant out of all the Lewis's and Luis's.
I hate it! I much prefer Luis!
Nice, regal name for a boy. It's not that common where I live.
Common but nice.
I simply don't understand how could someone not like the name Louis, and its other variant, Ludwig. This was the name of so many kings, so many military leaders, generals, noblemen and other honourable people. Its other variant, Ludwig, also has the same. The meaning also is beautiful. It is etymologically and in terms of meaning also connected to many other names with a great history and which were borne by many important historical figures, kings, military leaders, etc. I love that it means "famous", similarly to Robert, which is also a name with a great historical background and heritage, and also borne by many important and honourable people throughout history. Louis/Ludwig is a truly great name with an absolutely great history, great meaning, and connection to many other historically rich names. All of this makes it one of the best names out there, because history of the name really matters.
This name is okay in my book. I like how it sounds and I generally appreciate with full acknowledgement on the historical background of this somewhat illustrious name. In closing, I believe this name could match any person of
any age and that is a big plus from my point of view.
Too boring and old fashioned. This name also has a weird wimpy-yet-pompous sound to it.
For a long time, I pronounced this name as LEW-is no LOUI. I'm sorry.
One of my middle names is Louis. My parents chose it because I was born on the feast day of Saint Louis. I think it's pretty nice, but it's a bit too common in France. Oh well, at least it's a classic.
I like this name a lot, it's like a breathe of fresh air compared to other, popular names. I like it pronounced both ways, though if I named my kid this, I'd pronounce it with the "s" sound, and use Lou-ee as a nickname. I'm not as fond of the spelling Lewis.
This name has always been pronounced as Lou-is where I'm from
Lou-E would be spelled as Louie .So I'm rather annoyed when people get on their high horse, claiming that Lou-E is how you say it or is the "proper" spelling. Learn that some names have multiple pronunciations. In the states, Lewis & Louis are said the same exact way.
I hate this name. It doesn't sound very appealing. Louis sounds as dark as a devil.
I love this name! I think it should definitely be pronounced LOO-ee. It sounds so fancy and sophisticated and romantic, although I am probably prejudiced by Anne Rice and Interview with the Vampire. :D.
I love this name, despite its commonness! In the USA how should I pronounce it? If you want to pronounce it LOO-ee, then you can spell it Louie, which is a little easier in the US.
Such a wonderful meaning.
Aw! I love this name. :) Louis! So cute! (Pronounced LOO-EE, or LWEE, of course :) But I mostly like it because of the Anne Rice books. :D
I think this is a pretty nice name. The pronunciation LOO-ee seems more goofy and laid back to me, while Louis both funny and casual. I also find Louis to be a very sophisticated and formal name. I suppose the funny and casual bit I got from Even Stevens. It's a cool name.
I think this name is really beautiful. I would probably not use it though due to its similarity to Louise and Loser, which is such a shame as I love this name but kids today can be rather cruel and I would hate that to happen to my child as I was bullied about my name when I was at school. I think it would be a bit silly of me to give a child a name which I had doubts about and may possibly bring them the same unhappiness as myself, however my name is way more extreme!
I hate this name. It doesn't sound very appealing. "Louis" ugh. I hate it.
I like this name quite a bit, but far prefer the pronunciation loo-EE to LEW-is. LEW-is just sounds odd and incorrect to me.
Louis should always be pronounced Lou-ee. Pronouncing Louis as Lew-is is wrong. And annoying!
