Meaning & History

This name combines 愛 (ai, ito.shii, o.shimu, kana.shii, mana, me.deru) meaning "affection, love" or 真 (shin, ma, ma-, makoto, mana) meaning "real, true" with 華 (ka, ke, hana) meaning "flower," 佳 (ka, kei) meaning "beautiful, excellent, good," 花 (ka, ke, hana), which has the same meaning as 華, 香 (kyou, kou, ka, kao.ri, kao.ru) meaning "incense, perfume, smell" or 果 (ka, ha.tasu, hata.su, -ha.tasu, ha.te, ha.teru, -ha.teru) meaning "fruit."
It also combines 真, 茉 (batsu, ma, matsu), part of 茉莉 (matsuri) meaning "jasmine," or 麻 (ma, maa, asa) meaning "flax, hemp" with 央 (ou, naka) meaning "centre, middle."

Rare examples of Manaka with 3 kanji include 万奈加, 真名花 and 麻菜香 with 万 (ban, man, yorozu, ma) meaning "ten thousand," 奈 (dai, na, nai, ikan, karanashi) meaning "wild apple," 名 (myou, mei, na, -na) meaning "name, reputation" and 菜 (sai, na) meaning "greens, side dish, vegetable."

As a word, Manaka (真中) means "middle, centre, mid-way", though this is only a word and is not used as a name (yet it can be used as a surname).

One fictional bearer of this name is Manaka Kisaragi (如月 真名花) who is a character in the anime Boogiepop Phantom.

Manaka is also used as a surname.
