Maximus

The only context I've ever heard "Maximus" used in is "gluteus Maximus." Why would you name your son that?

I'd use this name for a large dog breed like a Pit, Great Dane, Mastiff etc.

I don’t think it’s pretentious honestly.

I love my son's name Maximus. I don't call him Max I would have named him only Max if I were going to call him that. Funny how people think of a butt when they hear Maximus sad to see where their minds go when it comes to this name. Everyone who's met my newborn love his name and think is very awesome.

I prefer the shortened Max.

Maxwell and just Max are a million times better. Maximus is not only VERY pretentious but it will remind anyone of "gluteus maximus" which is a muscle located in one's actual butt.

Maximus is my son's name, we call him Max. It's not pretentious at all!

My son's names are Maximus and Cassius but we call them Max and Cash. I love the names obviously and never heard a person say anything other than nice things about it and certainly not that it's pompous, at least not to my face.

This name is great if you want your son to become a gladiator or tour guide in Rome when he grows up. It sounds so pretentious.

I guess this name drastically shot in popularity after the film "Gladiator" was released. It's a Latin name, and sounds very pretentious and out of place in the 21st century. God knows what the appeal of these -ius names is. Cassius and Julius are alright, but I really dislike Maximus and Atticus.

This name looks extremely pompous. Also makes me think of a gluteus maximus.

I love this name. It sounds strong and powerful. I prefer it as a middle name or with the nickname "Max".
