Derived from Greek μελισσεύς (melisseus) meaning "bee-keeper, bee-man", which is ultimately derived from Greek μέλισσα (melissa) meaning "honey-bee" (also see Melissa). In Greek mythology, Melisseus was the father of the nymphs Adrasteia and Ide.
