Meaning & History

Derived from Egyptian nwt meaning "sky".

In Egyptian mythology, Nut was the goddess of the sky, originally just the night sky, and all heavenly bodies in the Ennead. She was frequently depicted as a star-covered nude woman arching over the earth, or as a cow. She was a consort of her brother Geb, with whom she had Osiris, Seth 2, Isis, and Nephthys. She is considered one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon.
