Meaning & History
Hellenized form of the ancient Egyptian given name Pakhom. Also, it should be noted that there are some sources that state that Pachomios is an authentic Greek name, in which case it means "thick shoulder", derived from Greek παχὺς (pachys) "fat, thick" combined with Greek ὦμος (omos) "shoulder". Maybe it is indeed possible that there are two kinds of Pachomios(es), that came into existence separately from each other: one a hellenized form of an Egyptian name, the other an authentic Greek name. I think it is unlikely, however, as I see no further evidence for Pachomios as an authentic Greek name. Virtually all mentions I have seen of Pachomios show it as a hellenization of an ancient Egyptian name.
