I think the midcentury nickname of Phil prevents more people from considering this distinctive classic, it makes me hesitate too as Dr. Phil does come to mind, but I likely will still use it as I love the full form Phillip & nicknames Pip, Pippin, Flip, & Lip. I do favor the double L, it looks more complete to me, but also our surname has double letter in the middle as well so the alternative would look strange together, in my opinion.
Personally I think it's the name of a great and powerful man who does not have a fragile ego and is very cool.
I even like Philip. It's not bad but it's alright, this spelling with double L in my opinion.
This name is, as my kiddos would call it, is BUSTING. I think that's how you spell it! Reminds me of an adult diaper. In a positive way!!
Too many L's.
No extra L, please.
Why not Philip? Philip seems much more majestic; In my opinion.
Ruined by the nickname ‘Phil’.
If you wish to name your child this, I suggest spelling it with one "l" (Philip), as the two "l" version looks sorta repetitive.
If I ever have a son I want to give him the middle name Phillip after Phillip Pullman :)
I much prefer this spelling to "Philip". It looks more complete with the two L's.
My brother's name is Phillip and it is a nice name in my opinion.
