Named my son, who's now five, Samuel, when I was 26. I'm 31 now, and still adore the name Sam. I named him after Sam from the film 'Love Actually' because Sam was so pleasant, sweet, and loveable. It's funny because my Samuel has ended up looking insanely like Sam from 'Love Actually'. I have called him Sammy since he was a baby, but when he's older I think he'll grow into Samuel very nicely. To me it is a very cute and likeable name, easy one too. I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the name Samuel due to the 'uel' at the end, but I've kind of grown to like it.
This name is ok however the muel part just reminds me of mule. Sam and Sammy aren’t good nicknames either.
Although it’s a bit common, it’s a very classic name that surprisingly works well in different languages.
Sam is so much worse than Samuel. I wish people would stick with Samuel.
Classic, casual, even kinda cool IMO name that literally never ever ever gets old. I know so many Sams of both genders and they all suit the name perfectly.
Samuel is a really great name, it is a name from the bible.
Samuel is too common, not a good name.
Like how it starts; hate how it ends.
I like it. It's cool, classic, timeless, handsome and very nice.
Cute name. Sam and Sammy are cute nicknames.
I like Samuel for a name. In the Bible, Samuel is a very admirable man, so I appreciate the association. I think Sam is a good nickname, too. Also, I feel like Samuel is one of those names that ages really well, which I think is pretty important in a name.
Ditto. This name is very common even in the country where I live. I know a lot of boys named Samuel. It's such a handsome name.
Samuel's popularity is deserved - it's classic, but not dated, and Sam makes a very likable nickname. Samuel and Maximilian would work well for brothers - they're both well-known names with positive associations and the friendly nicknames Sam and Max.
This is my name. I used to hate it, but now I think it's a great name! I would recommend it because it, in my opinion, isn't a bad name.
Samuel is my joint favourite male name along with Thomas - Great name.
Uninteresting name. Too common.
It's culturally compatible, meaning that it can be used in different languages, countries and cultures across the world, which makes this such a good name.
My name is Samuel. Yes it is very old fashioned, but I have always been proud to carry such an amazing name. I love its Biblical origin, the associations with Samuel Beckett and Samuel Clemens, (better known as Mark Twain ) and I especially love how it can fit people of all ages and cultures. The majority of my friends and family call me either Sam or Sammy, but I have always liked Samuel the best. Despite its popularity, I would highly recommend using this name to anyone considering it!
I know so many people called Samuel, it’s so ugly.
Samuel is old and stodgy. He's fat and is an "outstanding member of society", meaning he's also boring as hell. It's a dated and miserable-sounding name.
This name sucks. Goodness. It hurts to see so many people talking about it like it’s good.
Strong, classic and timeless.
Samuel sounds like a very handsome and respectable name for a boy, and if an association didn't ruin it for me, I'd seriously consider using it in the future.
My joint favourite name along with Alexander. It's a strong, Biblical name and it would not look out of place on a toddler, Teenager, 30 year old or 80 year old. Blond, ginger, brown hair, Black guy, Latino guy it can suit any looks or background as well. It's so compatible, has a strong historic meaning and standing and doesn't lead to teasing. Great name.
One of my favourite names. It is a strong, classic and traditional name, but not classic in a boring way (like John or Robert). I like how it can suit any age and any looks and the nickname Sam is always reliable. Great name.
I think name Sambol is way BETTER than Samuel! That is because Sambol is masculine form of Sam so I think you should name your son Sambol NOT Samuel! I believe Sambol is going to become popular male name in USA and that Sambol will overtake Samuel to become most popular masculine names in USA! Will Sambol make list of top ten most popular boy names in USA? Let's see how many boys and men have that name Sambol in USA! Would you like to have a dad named Sambol or Samuel? I think Sambol is better choice for your son when you want your son to have a daughter of his own! PLEASE NAME YOUR SON SAMBOL NOT SAMUEL! I like Sambol more than Samuel because I think Sambol is way more softer than Samuel for a boy!
This guy is a great graphic designer, but don't take him for a fool. He's gotta belly but don't worry he has been eating hearts of palm and going on runs every day to cut that belly fat. Samuel likes to go by many different nicknames, but don't call him Sammy. Please. Sam is known for being a ladies man, he has had many notable high-profile relationships. His most recent lover was Angelina Jolie. So obviously you should name your son or maybe even daughter Samuel. You should do this because this happens to everyone named Samuel and there is zero evidence to dispute the facts above.
The name Samuel is quite popular here in England, I'm surprised it doesn't seem as popular in America, although I have a feeling it will break into the top 10 there in a few years. It could become as popular as William, Noah and James in the southern states within a few years, it is one of my favourites and is a strong, traditional masculine name that can suit any looks and any age.
I love this name. The guy I have a crush on has it.
Very common in my area, but not usually common in one place. They are spread all over the world, it’s a good international name.
Samuel is a respected, not-too-common name I would recommend to anyone. It fits all races and ethnicities (in my opinion) and its simplified form, Sam, fits both genders. As a bearer of the name, Samuel, I can say that I like it. THE END.
Samuel goes to Rocky Run Middle School.
My father's name is Samuel, as is my first born son. They both are level headed, caring, responsible, reasonable, dedicated, wonderful men. The best of the best. This is a strong name that anyone should be proud to carry.
A strong Biblical name which can be used by blacks and whites, and can suit any age.
This is my name and most people call me Samuel but I think this name is great!
My name is Samuel and I never used to like it I only liked Sam. Now I like Sam and Samuel!
This is my brother’s name, he goes by Sam though. Overall, I think this name is good. I recommend it.
I love this name. It’s masculine, yet gentlemanly. Strong, silent type. Doesn’t need to get into fights to prove his strength. Down to earth, great guy name. Stand up guy. Sam being a unisex nickname would be the only thing to give me pause. I don’t want my son mistaken for a woman.
Samuel is the best name ever and I feel that people keep the tree rolling.
That's me right there. I love it. I also love the meaning behind it. My son will be Sam Jr.
My first name is Samuel. When I was young I did not like it, but as an adult I think it has some cache. However, I hate the name Sammy, and am not fond of Sam. I also prefer the Hebrew pronunciation, Shem-u-well.
I like the name Samuel. It sounds very great. It is handsome and strong. Please name your child Samuel.
I love this name as this is my Dad's name. I think it is a lovely name.
I'm surprised the name is as popular as it is; I actually have yet to meet a Samuel. This is a good thing, as for me I haven't been bored to death over hearing the name over and over, and can still fit a personality to it. It sounds like the name of a quiet guy who often hangs out alone, but is a real joker once you get to know him. I like the name, but it's not one of my favorites.
Samuel is a nice name. It's not one of my favourites, but it's still a strong Biblical name that works on men of all ages and backgrounds. The only downside is that it has always been immensely popular, especially in the early 2000s, and I don't like any of its diminutives. Sam and Sammy as masculine diminutives seem to me as though they would work best on pets or young children.
I really love this name. It's so sophisticated, yet warm and friendly.
Another one of my absolute favorites! Samuel is a fantastic name that can fit any man of any age. The nickname "Sam" is also great. I would certainly consider naming my son this, along with Thomas and Timothy.
I'm biased because it's the name I picked when I changed my name, but this is a great name. It can be shortened easily but the full form is formal enough for professional situations. The only downside is how popular it is and "Sam I Am" jokes.
I don't like Samuel in its full form, but Sam as a nickname is great.
Samuel is a timeless, strong boy name that means "asked of God". I prefer it as a middle name since I'm not really a fan of Sam or Sammy. Samuel was a beautiful Biblical character.
I love this handsome, strong name. I think it's great how it's a religious name! :)
My brother has this name, and I actually really like it. It sounds classic yet modern, and has a smooth, silky sound. I'm not aware of how popular it is, though.
I am not too keen on the name Samuel. I suppose it is a decent name, even though the pronunciation (and even the sight of it written) does not excite me. In theory, I like Sam as a nickname, but it never fails to remind me of the name of a cat or dog... Sam just doesn't sound particularly substantial, sturdy, or even sportive. I have given Sam the nod of exception a couple times, though, so it isn't terrible -- unfortunately it comes, by default, attached to Samuel.
I absolutely love this name. My father, born in 1958, is named Samuel and he goes by Sam, as most men named Samuel seem to do. He's one of the greatest men I have ever known, and I adore this name, so it was like hitting two birds with one stone when I chose it as a middle name for my son Henry :) This is one of those classic names that never has and never will go out of style; it has been in the top 100 for over 200 years!
A strong name that ages well.
Well, this is my name. I never liked it too much when I was younger, but now I actually do. It's rather normal, and I've never cared that I share it with a few kids in my grade.
I personally don't like the name Samuel. If it is shortened to Sam, I think it sounds too girlie, and in a way, gay. No offense.
This name is a bit hard to pronounce.
I used to think it was hideous but it strangely grew on me.
I think Samuel is a timeless name that can fit on anybody. But PLEASE don't name your kid Samuel. I already have at least 3 kids named Sam in my little kids club. And it's so hard to keep track. Nice name, but it's getting too popular.
I am very much in love with this name. It's so strong but yet not overbearing or unusual. I can easily picture it on any boy or man when they get older. It fits many personalities beautifully and I'd JUMP to use it if it wasn't my future step-brothers name. Still though, great name.
I love the nickname Sam for Samuel, but I don't think "Sam" could stand well on its own. I've know only one person named Samuel and he really hated his name. I don't think it's that bad, just the end sound, "yool." It rhymes with drool, fool, and school. Of course, it also rhymes with cool.
This name kinda sounds like Sam-the-Mule.
I love the name Samuel. It fits anything a boy would like to be when he grows up. Doctor or rock star. We named our son Samuel and love it. We call him Sam.
I love the name Samuel. It's strong and old-fashioned in a good way. I hate the nickname Sam though. It's too short and it makes me think of an obnoxious overly competitive girl who beats people up. (I don't know why it does, I mean most Sam's I know both male and female are really nice)
So handsome! :)
I have a good friend named Samuel, and he likes his name very much. I like it too, because it isn't too confusing, it's nice and simple, can be good for an adult or child, and is a great sounding name. We call him Sam for short.
Love the name Samuel. I know this one girl whose name is Samuelle (sam-u-el). I hate it. Samuel is supposed to be a man's name. I can understand Ashley being a girls name, but Samuel?
I like the name Samuel and its biblical reference. It sounds strong yet gentle. I know of only one boy with this name.
I love this name! I don't think it is over-used because I only know like 1 Samuel. I like the nickname Sam.
I love this name. It's very handsome and multicultural.
