I like the name Savannah it's not the most professional name but it's not an immature name either
It's also not a really common name and I don't think a girl named Savannah is gonna get horribly bullied for it
So if you want to name your little daughter Savannah then go for it. Oh and two names I think go the most well with Savannah are Savannah May and Savannah Rose.
Pretty!
Desert name.
I think it's beautiful and elegant then Sunny was a cute nickname.
This is my lil sis's name! I love this name so much! I don't think it's a dumb name, or weird name. If ur looking for baby, names, u'll love this one for a baby girl.
Reminds me of the savannahs in Africa.
Savannah is cute.
I have 2 friends named Savannah, well, one prefers "Levi", but there's one thing they both have in common: Extremely crazy (in a good way).
Savannah is one of those common names that isn’t too common in my generation. I’ve always loved the way that it sounds. If you’re into longer names, definitely consider Savannah! The African Savanna is an amazing associate. Plus, the city Savannah, Georgia is beautiful!
Savannah is an okay name. I don’t have a problem with it. Despite that all the Savannah’s I know are just annoying in one way or another. That being said, Savannah isn’t much compared to the gorgeous Susanna(h). Susanna is the more superior name in my opinion, its floral, historical, and interesting variants and nicknames options. Susanna I can imagine spring, sunshine, and lots of green. When I think of Savannah I think of dry grass, Savannah cats (Which are cute), and some more I’m not gonna say on here. Frankly, Savannah looks pale compared to Susanna.
Savanah is the sexiest name I’ve ever heard. Sexier than any stripper or pornstar y’all are commenting about. Anyone would be lucky to have this name. See you you losers in a meadow, I’ll be wearing a yellow dress.
It's not too overused, but also not so rare that people don't know how to spell it or pronounce it. I can't think of any nicknames or references that could lead to bullying. Anyone would be lucky to have this name!
Savannah is a pretty name. It's common in my generation, but it's still different. I love the way it sounds, and that it's used all over the USA.
I love the name Savannah. It's graced with a beautiful southern charm that's impossible not to adore. Also, Savannah Smiles has always been one of my absolute favorite movies.
Overall gorgeous name.
It is such a cool name. I think of a girl who loves nature when I hear the name Savannah.
My name is Savannah and I always get compliments for it, I don’t mind if people don’t like it because I know it’s their opinion on the name. I’m not the biggest fan of my name but I like it.
I like this name, it is the name of my friend. I wouldn't personally like it to be my name though, since it kind of sounds like a sausage.
I have a great experience with this name, I had a best friend with this name. She was so nice and kind! I can't think of many good nicknames however, but this is a splendid name!
I like this name, it's cute!
I don't like the name very well but I do think Savvy would be a cutesy nickname!
Sounds southern to me but pretty. It reminds me of a young woman dressed in a yellow floral dress near a creek.
Beautiful name! Savannah has class! I like it a lot and also feel like this is a strong name for strong women! Love it!
This name is actually my name, didn't really care for it when I was growing up but I like it a little bit more. Personally, whenever I hear the name, I think of the cat breed & and the city in Georgia :)
Better than some names out there. Not a fan.
I love Savannah! I love Sav or Savvy as a nickname. Mmmm, yes!
Most boring and unimaginative name EVER!
My name is Savannah and, believe me, I've despised my name at times. But overall, I do love my name. My middle name is May, and I believe it sounds pretty good with my first name :-)
Terrible name.
Savannah is so lovely. She could go by Anne or Anna or even Ava rather than Sav/Savvy. Love that she's been in use since the 1700s!
My name is Savannah and although I haven't always loved my name, I do think it suits me and I've grown to accept it. Some of the nicknames I get called are Savy, Vanna, and Savannah Banana.
My ex and I couldn’t agree on a name in 2003, I was eight months pregnant and one of my exes' friends said “what about the name Savannah? There’s a porn star named Savannah and she’s really pretty”, I laughed, literally thinking nothing of the remark of the porn star, so Savannah it was. Middle name Marie, named after a former boss who couldn’t have kids. She’s now 16 and she likes her name, she’s strong, kind, and smart. Some of the comments I’ve read are hilarious- Anyone who says they wouldn’t name their child after a porn star's name obviously does not have much confidence in themselves! No regrets here!
This is still my favorite name. ;)
Savannah is my favorite name. I have lots of favorite names, but this is my top name. Savannah, Georgia is beautiful. I think of a Southern Belle when I pick a girl named Savannah. Like someone from the 1800s. I can also picture this name on a girl from the 1700s. This is a classy name with a classy feel that isn't too classic like Maud or Maude. Anyway, this is a very nice name and I totally recommend it. I know 6 Savannah's (I'm Southern, and it was somewhat popular in the 2000s I don't know if it is now) they are all on the top of their class and have all A's. Names are just names. If you don't like it, just leave it at that. Don't be like some of the past commenters please. Thank you.
I much prefer Savannah to Susannah. I hate that these two are compared so often let alone be in the same sentence, Susannah doesn’t even hold a light up to Savannah.
Savannah is a gorgeous moniker with history, it’s been in use since the late 19th/early 20th century.
Susannah’s just an attempt to make a soccer mom name like Susan onto something trendy by adding an -a at the end of it. Not my tastes at all, sorry not sorry.
@selaine- The name Susanna(h) actually came before Susan, not the other way around. Just sayin'.
Hmm, very interesting name. It sounds quite pretty, but I prefer Susannah ;)
Love this name. This is a name of an adventurous and daring woman.
This is my name too! I love my name and my mom who picked it! Some people say they were named after the Savannah Smiles movies or something else, my mom named me Savannah because she thought I looked like a Savannah girl, so any of you that are named Savannah just know that you are beautiful inside and out and don't let anyone be rude to you about your name or any other reason!
I love this name, it's mine to enjoy. I have nicknames like Vanna, Sav, Banana, or my sis calls me Savage, which I think is cute, nothing wrong.
This is my name, and though I think it’s pretty, I would never give it to a child. As a full name it sounds lovely, but all of the nicknames (Sav, Savvy, Vanna, what have you) sound so ridiculous to me. I’ve always told people that I’d rather be called Savannah than anything. If you’re going to name your kid this, PLEASE at least give them a short middle name that they can go by.
Can I have this name for real? I need it, I really want it to be my name.
I really love the name because my name is Savannah and my grandmother's name is Savannah and I know for a fact that the name Savannah is more than 100 years old because my grandmother would have been 106 today had she lived.
Such a pretty name!
I think Savannah Smiles is a great movie and my name is Savannah and I love it.
I honestly think it's interesting to see other people's views on my name. I, like the majority of Savannahs, was named after the movie. I've only personally known five/six other Savannahs in my lifetime, and where I live now, I haven't met an awful lot of girls with my same name (maybe one). I don't really have an opinion on my name, but since the name is dear to my mother (she loved the movie growing up), I can't hate it.
This is my name! Apparently when I was born people told my parents that it was a stripper name, which is A.) A really rude thing to say about someone's newborn, and B.) Something that's never made sense to me. I mean, I don't have a lot of experience with strippers, but it has always just seemed like a normal name to me.
Good name, but don’t pair it up with Jayne/Jane. My name is Savannah Jayne, therefore my name is Plain Jayne. Funny now, but just for those of you scouring the internet for names, keep this in mind. Love my name though. And I’m not an airheaded stripper. I actually dedicate my time to school, reading, and college prep. I am actually working to join the navy, so I doubt stripping is in my future. Kudos to the women who do strip though, definitely a hard line of work.
Love Savannah, it’s gorgeous. And I see the same old ‘porn star/stripper’ comments. I see it all over this site & seems that any name that isn’t common is trashy. So boring.
It's okay, not my favorite, but I prefer Susannah or Susanna, and I also like Savva as a nickname.
I personally love the name Savannah. I have 3 children and one of my daughters is called Savannah-Daisy I chose the name after hearing a song while I was pregnant with her and also because of my auntie being called Silvana which has a similar sound to Savannah. To me Savannah sounds like the name of a very beautiful girl, inside and out, which my 4 year old definitely is. I feel the hatred for the name is unnecessary and saying it's a stripper name is unfair too- a Mary can be a stripper too.
Hello... my name is Savannah. I know that some of your impressions of my name are that it's "trashy" and some of you were kind enough to say that is a bratty, southern name... thanks for that by the way (can you smell the sarcasm) I would like to take a moment of my time to tell you that a name does not define a person, although it can affect someone in the workplace if you gave them an obviously stupid name like crystal... I mean that has to be quite a few stripper's names... anyway I would also like to point out the fact that I, while I am not the majority here, was not raised in the south, but in Colorado... the only reason I was named so was because my great grandma is from Georgia and my mom saw a TV show with the name Savannah in it and loved it. I also believe that judging people because they have a name that happens to also be the name of some porn star's persona is a downright terrible thing to do. And normally I would stay out of something like this, but seeing some things that were said about my name, which, for your information, is a very elegant and mature name (not to toot my own horn or anything), was a very negative experience, even with the positivity surrounding the name... I know that whatever your name is, it is probably also the name of some porn star/stripper. My name is not going to hold me back in my career and if it does, then it is just a name, and I can change it.
This is my name actually and I love it. I think this name is very feminine and pretty. The only issue with this name is the popularity. I have met several other Savannahs in my school and hear the name quite often. Other than that I really like this name.
My name is Savannah, and I love it. I believe it is beautiful and sophisticated, dreamy and elegant. I almost always get compliments on it. I was named after Savannah Smiles came out. I am a deep thinker and daydreamer. I love fashion, am artistic, and smile all the time. I believe my name greatly influenced me in how I act and has contributed towards making me beautiful inside and out.
Bless your hearts, Francesca, slightnightshiver, bananarama, et al ~ Someone's name is not what defines them, their choices nor their journey through life. Strength in character, self discipline, humility, compassion, and similar traits play a role far greater than a name ever can or will. Common sense, not ignorance will dictate this fact throughout time.On a personal note, bad manners, narrow minded thinking and lapse in judgment are merely indications that wearing a body part as a hat isn't a good look on most people, particularly women.~ * ~PS. Jeepgirl... You're a rock star and have a beautiful name.
My name is Savannah Elizabeth Garrett II. I was named after my grandmother Savannah Elizabeth Garrett I. I love my name and I am very proud to have it as well. I'm not an airhead, or a stripper. I graduated high school and went to college, I got my CNA/GNA/CMT licenses and also I am a licensed nail technician. Just because 2 strippers had this name, doesn't mean the rest of us with the name Savannah are dumb and stupid. Honestly for those of you that were making your rude comments and opinions about my name and assuming that all Savannah's are the same, maybe you are the ones that need to be educated. I'm proud of my southern/Indian blood and I am proud to have the name Savannah.
Beautiful name.
The imagery and idea behind the name is nice; it's not a bad idea to name a daughter after the wild, wind grasslands with few trees and lots of animals. However, the name itself sounds horribly immature, cutesy, and childish. I have met a grown woman named Savannah, and it didn't work for her at all; the name is just so YOUNG sounding, I can't see it on anyone older than seventeen.
SAVANNAH is my name and I absolutely hate it. My mom told me I was named after one of my great great great grandmothers that was a Cherokee princess and her name was Zabana or something like that, meaning SAVANNAH, also meaning 'great plain'. This is why I hate this name 'great plain'? Really? I want something that actually means something that I can be remembered by, not 'great plain'. So boring.
It's so short sighted to hate on a name like so many people have been, and harshly too. Yet I am also pleased to see that many people like this name as I do! It's also ironic how well liked and popular the name Georgia is (not so criticized) and yet it's the name of the state that Savannah the city is in! A city which is the oldest city in the states and is historical, beautiful and cultured. If you've never been it's a great place to visit and get out on the water. The word Savanna comes from a native American word for open grassy plain, which I think adds to its value as an historic nature name.
Names, like art, are subjective. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I personally love this name. I was considering the other S names Sophia, Scarlett, Saffron and Seraphina, but I wanted a name with a V in it that was a "nature name", and Savannah is perfect! :-)
My best friend and sister's names are Savannah. Except my sister's is spelled Savanah and my best friend's is Savannah. They're both classy and elegant people and they know how to take control of situations well. I believe that Savannah is a beautiful name and I love how well it seems to fit both of my loved ones.
This is a very beautiful, classic name.
Savannah is not even on the list of popular porn star names. Google most popular porn names. Any name can be turned into one so I don't get where all these negative comments about the name Savannah come from.
All the trendy names can be stripper names. I have heard of Madison, and Sophia being used in that industry too. Savannah is a gorgeous name that reminds me of the beautiful African Savanna.
This is really annoying me how ignorant people are saying this is a trashy stripper name. I think it is a beautiful, classy name.
I disagree with the consensus here but I do agree with several users about this name. I think it sounds pretty tacky and admittedly stripper-like, and I think it is weird how popular it is in the United States (5,000- 8,000 uses annually since 1995).
The name Savannah is beautiful. My little princess is named Savannah. I have noticed a lot of negative comments regarding the name, that maybe stemming from jealousy. Firstly, the name is growing in popularity, even the queen of England's great grand-daughter is named Savannah. It is not a tacky name, but a stunner's name.I think the heaters of this name may have lacked name charisma and it clearly affected how they feel maybe towards others with better names.
My name is Savannah, and I am from Rivers State in Nigeria. The name Savannah was given to me by my parents. Here in Nigeria it seems like I am the only person answering to the name. I love this name so much.
Savannah is a very pretty name. Savanna is okay too. I've always liked it. Bad things happen anywhere sadly. It's also got a nature feel to it which is neat.
My name is Savannah, and I can tell you I'm not a serpent or porn star. You can't tell anything about somebody by their name. I am a good person, so that disproves your theory that a person with the name Savannah is a serpent or porn star.
My babies' name is Savannah. It's so girly and classic. Respectable name. A name that has been around for generations and is still very popular.
I love this name, but I prefer the spelling Savanna.
Not a fan of this name. I lump it in with all the bad place names that are popular right now. It's right up there with Brooklyn, London and Paris. Tacky.
This name is very very popular where I live. I think it will date.
I think Savannah is a nice name. I live there in Chatham County myself. I grew up there- it was pretty.
A name does not define a person. You could meet a Savannah who is harsh and cold, or a Savannah who is kind and beautiful. You can't assume something about a person because of their name.Anyway, I LOVE Savannah! I usually like soft names on girls, but Savannah really struck a chord with me. Susannah, which is much softer, is alright, but it doesn't have the charm that Savannah has!
Shut it on the "dumb, stripper, porn star"crap because my name is Savannah and I can assure you I am an honor student becoming a doctor and I'm not a damned stripper. Your name is just as fit for a stripper than the name Savannah.
A lovely name! This is going into my favorite list! It is sweet and soft and I think I would name a daughter this! So this name is cool!
My impression of this name is very uncertain. I like and dislike it at the same time. I like it because I adore the similar Irish name Sophannagh (sof-AH-nuh). But besides that, Savannah also reminds me of savon (sah-VAWN), which is the French word for soap.
Savannah happens to be MY name! I assure you I'm neither ditsy, nor shallow. I didn't get my boobs done at 18 and I'm not a serpent either. I'm going to college to learn foreign language, all while being a mom to 2 small boys. To me the name is strength and dignity, it's spontaneity and rooted, it's love and fierceness, it's lovely and musical... it's all the things I want in a name! I'm sorry for those of you who will never understand the wonder that is the name Savannah... and I'm sorry for those who give the name a bad vibe. I promise not all Savannah's are horrid.
My name is Savannah and I love it. One of the most common things people say to me when they hear it is "what a pretty name for such a pretty girl!" In my school there are only two other savannahs out of about 1,500 students, so it's not as common as it might seem. Whenever I discuss my name with people they always tell me that when they hear the name Savannah they think of a nice outgoing girl. One of my best friends is also named Savannah, and we're both at the top of our class and so is the other Savannah. Another thing I love about my name is that it's hardly ever said incorrectly, and it sounds alike in a lot of different languages. I truly love my name!
Take off your top!Sorry, this name makes me think of strippers. I can't help it.
Savannah is my name and I absolutely adore it. When my mother was pregnant with me, she and my father were watching the news while wondering what to name me. They went through every name they could think of, but couldn't decide. Suddenly, the news reporter announced that there was a tornado in Savannah, Georgia, and my father thought that name was lovely. All my life I've gotten nothing but positive comments about my name, and have yet to meet someone who disapproves of it.
This is my name. Amazingly, I am *not* a tacky, wacky stripper with a borderline IQ and an inflated ego from the Southern US; I must have dodged that fate by virtue of a stodgy middle name. I don't care for Savannah personally (I find it too feminine for myself) but I won't disparage those who like it or have it. It is "pretty", slightly unusual, and has become more popular in recent times. It's bound to have admirers and detractors. Yet some of the vehemence toward it here seems more like a vendetta. It's ignorant because it sounds like a "Southern" name? The bias in that idea alone is staggering. (Southern as shorthand for trashy, basically. Yikes.) Porn stars have had this name? Try finding a name that hasn't been used by someone in that industry, or by anyone else deemed unpleasant. Not. Possible.Don't like it? Don't give anyone the name. But don't tell anyone they're worthless for having it.
Savannah is a very pretty name. I quite like it! :)
I will not refrain from being very blunt in the review of this so-called 'name,' "Savannah." It is not only unbelievable tacky, cheap, childish, pretentious, pompous, uneducated, unintelligent, and unprofessional-- it is ugly; an atrocity; a curse. It certainly smells of spoiled, bratty southern pageant-babies... definitely not the definition of brains. Is it your goal to harm your child's professional business career because of a name? A Savannah Rockwell would not be hired for heart surgery. A Savannah Peirce would not be wanted to defend and fight my court case.A previous poster assumed that people of similar views to my own only are pleased by "traditional" (Elizabeth, Mary, Emily, and so on and so forth) names... I assure you that is not necessarily the case. It is about worldly function. Do you imagine your child leading a successful business? Curing cancer? Fighting legal cases? Names like Rainbow, Sparkle, August, Juniper, India, LaToya, and Savannah will only restrict fast-coming (deserved) triumph. My first attempts when pondering possible future names are "Will s/he thank me for the name?" "Will s/he be mocked?" Most importantly, "Will the name aid success?" "Or will it prove to be a barrier?"
Old fashioned English and American name. I don't mind that it's been revived for the 90's and 00's.
This names sounds amazing! Makes me think of someone who's sweet, thoughtful and popular and of someone who likes nature. I think this name is youthful but it can still age well I love it! :D
I think this name is very beautiful. It reminds me of the South, summer, and sunshine. It has an exotic feel to it as well. Although, it is becoming a tad too overused.
This is my best friend's name. Despite its popularity, there's only one or two other girls in our grade with the name. I think it's a pretty name. I wouldn't name my daughter that, but it works for her very nicely.
Ravishing! As someone from the south (in the US), Savannah strikes me as sunny, stylish, and classic Southern Belle. Near the top of my list, this one. And yes, as a child I loved "Savannah Smiles."
Like a previous poster said, long before I think of the name's current popularity, or the city in Georgia (which I hear is nice), I think of the gorgeous African landscape. And then "The Lion King." lol
Anyway, I think this name is absolutely stunning, and it flows right off the tongue. It's not trashy at all. (I can think of much trashier names: Chastity, Crystal and all its variants, etc.)
This is a pretty trashy name. It sounds like a name that a porn star or stripper would use.
I think Savannah is a cool name for a girl.
This is my name but I wish it was something else, it just gets dull. It is VERY girly but yeah I LOVE shopping.
In Australia you never really hear this as a name. But I was reading a book set in Savannah, Georgia? I think it's Georgia not too sure. Anyway I fell in love with it as a name, it is feminine and soft and sounds beautiful.
Savannah is a name of someone who is beautiful both inside and out, intelligent, respectful and respected, delicate, gentle, graceful, peaceful, friendly, loyal, strong, independent, diligent and patient. Even with all her flaws. This is such a pretty name, I especially like the soft 'v' sound in it.
This is such a nice name. It's wonderful.
I think it's a cold, harsh name but it's been used for a good 170 years and not just in the US. This experienced some popularity in Britain during the 19th century.I find gem names like Ruby and Pearl vastly trashier than this similarly aged "place" name.
Sorry, but this name seems borderline trashy to me. It was the pseudonym of the porn star Shannon Wilsey, and it sounds quite suitable for porn stars and strippers. Somehow it seems tacky. I'm not saying that this is necessarily a stripper name, but at the best, I imagine girls with this name to be ditzy and vapid girls from California who get their boobs done as soon as they hit 18. Wasn't this what Janice Dickinson named one of her children? Anything she does is in poor taste.
This name is wonderful. It's not super common or trendy.
This is my name and I've gotten many comments on how it's beautiful and unique. In my lifetime I've only known one person with the same name as myself and it was spelled differently. I really love my name because it's sensual, beautiful without being over-used and I don't get many questions about how to pronounce it.
SAVANNAH. It's beautiful no matter which way I look at it! I thought about this for a baby name when I first got married because it was so beautiful and elegant. Then I met someone in my office named Savannah and she gave even a new beauty to the name to show me just why I loved it! It is pretty but not too dramatic, soft but not wimpy, fun & light-hearted but still very intelligent and it carries a girlie quality that will probably never grow old!
Savannah is beautiful. We can't be so traditional and classic. Do you mean the only beautiful, good names are Mary, Elizabeth, Emily, Julie. And stop the question. How very boring, let me tell you.
Yet another idiotic girl's name. What are these parents thinking? You're going to name your kid after a type of field?
I really love this name, it sounds exotic even though all the popularity.
I love this name. If my best friend and cousin hadn't given this name to their daughters, I would have used it for my daughter (if my husband would agree). Very feminine and soft. Lovely.
I think this a pretty name. My sister is named this. Rainxxxgirl, it is not an ugly serpent's name.
I always think of Africa when I hear this name.
Very ugly serpent's name.
I think this is a beautiful name!
All the Savannahs I know are all shopaholics. I think the name is pretty, but a bit too popular.
I adore this name! It's beautiful and has an exotic quality to it.
One of my best friend's name is Savannah. I think her name is very pretty.
I think one of the reasons Savannah is growing in popularity as a name is because many mothers seem to name their children after Savannah, Georgia. Not that this is a bad thing. Savannah is a very nice, artsy city.
I love this name! It is so feminine and delicate. My daughter is named Savannah and I recommend it highly! I understand it's getting quite popular, but I have only come across three other gilrs with this name. Just beautiful!
