I *LOVE* my name. I always have since I can remember which is going on 50 years 🤫😁 I think feel it has the right amount of femininity without being horribly girly. As a kid I was a tom-boy (preferred mud pies to an easy bake oven) 😂 I have met a few Shayla’s in my life. It is almost always a double-take moment when you hear it but never in a bad way. Every one of them have been cheerful and pleasing people. Maybe I am biased. I still get compliments on it and at my age that is always amazing. We also had a family historian in our family who provided us with name meanings. While there are and have been many meanings assigned to it the only two she could find consistently was: Latin - “gift from God” and Irish Gaelic - “from the fairy palace”. The last of these is the most common meaning. Since I am not overtly religious AND I happen to be mostly Irish, I decided to accept the latter gladly. Technically though being from the fairy palace in Ireland is not necessarily considered a good thing as one might be a changling 😈 Someone commented about it meaning blinded? I have not heard that one. The downsides?
1: Very consistently being called Sheila
2: Consistent mispronunciation usually being called Shyla (still haven’t figured out why someone would drop the “a” including automated systems)
3: Misspellings all over the board but the most common is dropping the “y” so it is Shala which to me looks like LaLa with an “Sh”.My name comes from within our family, my mother’s great-grandmother who was the first to immigrate from Ireland. Why her parents named her Shayla we don’t know. But she was according to my mother and grandmother a remarkable woman and spunky until she died so I am proud to be named after her ☺️Edit: I don’t believe the usage chart is accurate. It doesn’t show anyone in 1975 and I was born that year 😂😂.
Shayla is a really gorgeous name! I love the way that it sounds.
Hello, I am a Shayla and I personally hate the name... sorry dislike- hate is a strong word. Tho, these people coming on and saying that they luv their name is just weird, we would all be better off without that thx.
My parents found my name by strolling through a grave yard. One thing I do luv is the urban dictionary definition of my name.
#hate #dislike #pllsuck #weirdos #ihatelife.
This is a pretty name. I like the name Shayla. I also like Shayna.
Personally, I prefer the name Shayna. It's better in my opinion. Shayna is more mature than Shayla or Shaila. Shayna also has a meaning, beautiful. But, there are worse names out there. If you like Shayla, go ahead and use it. It's very uncommon, and I would rather meet Shayla than a Mia.
Sounds like a stripper!
This will be my daughter’s name. To me the name is unique and fresh. I think of a sweet girl when I hear this beautiful name.
I'm reading these comments and wondering "How does a simple name sound harsh?" Please, someone, explain.
My name is Shayla as well. I didn't like my name at first because when went to the beach we would see key chains or other things with names on it, and my family would always find their names- even if it wasn't spelled the same it was still pronounced the same way. I could never find my name. Yeah, but now I love my name because it's unique and different!
My name's Shayla, In my life time I've only met one other Shayla. But I love my name. It's so different, it sounds quirky, elegant, passionate, I just over all love my name. You pronounce this name Shay-Lah.
My name is Shayla, and I love it. I couldn't think of any better name. The sound of Shayla matches the personality. Shayla sounds kind of quirky, cheery, enthusiastic, and at times shy. With Shayla being an uncommon name, I have met 3 girls named Shayla not including me. Shayla is the name of a song by singing sensation Blondie. I can't exactly remember how to spell it but it means female kangaroo. If you have this name you are very fortunate.
My name is Shayla! I like my name! I think it's very very differen,t not a common name. I have only ever met one other person my whole life named Shayla!
I'm also a Shayla, looking at these charts... apparently one of the first as my birthday is 1971 :) I do remember watching the movie Splash & seeing my name in the credits, so there Is someone out there older than me & I'm 44. I Have another take on the name here.. I've seen the Gaelic origin, however my name came from the Jewish name Shayna, which in Hebrew means "pretty" but my Dad didn't like the "n" so they changed it to an "l." I was named after my grandfather's mother, Sarah. We take the first letter of a deceased relative's name to carry on the heritage. I've noticed that my name is much more popular today. It's very strange for me to call someone else by my name... lol, & it drives me crazy to be called Sheila!
Although u all have opinions both good and bad, I Am Shayla and have been my whole life. Immature not so much not even childish in the least bit. It's a name not over used like Kayla. It takes a special person to carry this name and own it. I love my name and there's not too many named Shayla out there. I've found that most named Shayla are very independent and strong women and young ladies. I AM Shayla and I Love It!
I think it's a very pretty name. And the name Shay could be a very nice nickname for it.
I have mixed feeling about this name. It's very juvenile and a little harsh sounding. But pretty. It seems as if everyone has different opinions so if you want to use this name, and you like it, I'd say go right ahead. (:
This name is really nice and sweet, and I think of a beautiful woman when I hear this name.
Ugly, trashy, and juvenile. Just name your daughter Sheila or Kayla instead of smushing them together!
This name is really pretty!
My name is pronounced this way, though it is spelled as "Shailah." I think it's a rather pretty name, if I do say so myself.
I read a book where one of the character's names was Shay, and I loved the name. In Spanish class one day, my teacher (who speaks with an accent) pronounced the name Sheila (which is okay, but not really my taste) as Shayla. I loved the name immediately.
The name Shayla in my opinion is elegant and sophisticated, but fun at the same time. I really like this name!
I named my daughter, Shayla, in 1981. I got the idea from an Ebony Fashion Fair model/commentator, named Shayla, during the 1970s. Also, Shayla rhymes with her mother's name, Gala.
Ugh, while the name Shaelyn sounds pretty against all odds, this name sounds harsh, tacky, and somewhat too youthful. It's funny what a small difference in sound can do.
Really pretty name.
Very pretty name, I know of one girl in my son's grade 1 class named Shayla.
Shayla is my best friend's name. I think that name is very pretty. It's an unique name. Shayla sounds very girlie and cute.
I like this name because it's unusual and not a name that you hear often.
I think this is a great name, very pretty and feminine and not overly used.
