Nice. I find it more feminine, but I understand why somebody would use it on a male.
Name of the day: 4/25/21.
Shiva is a cool name for a boy and it has a nice meaning. I don't see it as feminine...
It's a very common masculine name, the 'a' at the end either isn't pronounced or is pronounced as a schwa. It's a single syllable name for all intents and purposes. There is a (rare) feminine variant of the name, but it would be written as either "Shivaa" or "Shivah", or very uncommonly as "Shiva", but it would be pronounced differently (two syllables).
Shiva is also a Persian feminine name, meaning "eloquent".
I have a male classmate by the name of Shiva. He is some sort of Southeast Asian/Middle Eastern, so the name is fitting. Although, we did once have a substitute who, when calling attendance, thought he was a girl. He pronounces it "SHEE-vuh".
This should be a girl's name. It sounds way too feminine for a boy, especially for a man!
Shiva is a strictly masculine name. If anyone wants a feminine name of the same sound, consider the Irish Síomha.
I'm not of the faith, so I could be wrong, but I believe a "Shiva" is the Jewish equivalent of a "wake."
I love the meaning of the name.
There's a character in the game Mortal Kombat named Shiva, who has four arms. This character, however, is a girl.
Also an Iranian name meaning "charming".
The German singer Nina Hagen named her daughter Cosma Shiva Hagen.
I am a Tamilian, but I think that this holds true not only in Tamil-speaking states but throughout India:
Shiva is NOT pronounced SHEE-va, it is pronounced with a short I sound
- SHI-va
SHEE-va is an anglicized pronunciation.
There was a book that was called Shiva's Fire by Suzanne Fisher Staples.
I have a male friend named Sivakumar, "Siva" for short. (Pronounced "Shiva").
As a non-Indian, I prefer this name on a girl. Maybe I'm just used to names ending with the letter 'a' being used on girls, but I can still imagine a young boy with this name.
I also would prefer this name on a girl.
I think this is more of a feminine name than a masculine, but of course Shiva was a god and not a godess. But still it's more feminine.
I like this name. It is rather unusual and quite interesting. I've read a book called 'Shiva', but the character was a girl!
