Meaning & History

This name is used as 藤吉郎 with 藤 (tou, dou, fuji) meaning "wisteria", 吉 (kichi, kitsu, yoshi) meaning "congratulations, good luck, joy" and 郎 (ryou, rou, otoko) meaning "son."

Bearers of this name include baseball player Tōkichirō Ishii (石井 藤吉郎) (1924-1999) and Tōkichirō Kinoshita (木下 藤吉郎) (1537-1598), who would later become known as Hideyoshi Toyotomi (or Toyotomo Hideyoshi if surname is used first) (豊臣 秀吉).

In modern times, it's rarely given to boys, if given at all.
