I know two women named Xiomara! One is from Guadalajara, Mexico, and the other is from Puerto Rico. The proper pronunciation is “sio-MAH-ra,” but English speakers usually say “zio-MAR-a.”.
I still wonder if this name might not be related to Chiomara, the name of a 2nd century B.C. Galatian noblewoman:https://www.behindthename.com/bb/fact/626633
From Elizabeth Acavedo's "the Poet X"
The mother of the protagonist on the TV show "Jane the Virgin" is called Xiomara.
Xiomara Castro, first female president of Honduras (sworn in 01/2022)
I love this name, it's so pretty! I'm Hispanic, so I would absolutely name my daughter this.
This is neat.
I LOVE my name. Never met any other Xiomaras. It's good that the name has a clean reputation slate. Apart from like, Miss Bolivia or something from the 1980s. If I can't even remember the country, she obviously doesn't matter that much. 5/5.
This name looks pretty, but how is this pronounced? Is it one of those names like Ariana where it just depends on the person? The pronunciation guide makes it look like Sigh-oh-mar-uh or See-yo-mar-uh. The comments make it look like See-oh-mar-uh or Zo-mar-uh or See-uh-mar-uh. I thought maybe Zee-oh-mar-uh or Zee-uh-mar-uh. But then I saw that it's a Spanish name so is it Jee-oh-mar-uh or Hee-oh-mar-uh?
To assist the previous anon user, it's pronounced ZEE-oh-mara or ZEE-uh-mara.
Original doesn't mean better, this name is proof of that.
I love this name! It's so nice. Plus, I love Xo from Jane the Virgin. Xo/Zo and Zoe are also great nicknames. It's such a great name.
Absolute garbage. How do you even say this stupid name? A kid in my school was named this and they had to change schools.
I think this name is great, since I am called Xiomara.
Yikes. The comments here saying it's an "exotic" name are so cringe-worthy. It's only exotic if your view is centered on white, American/European names. The world is so much bigger than the dominant, white/Eurocentric culture.
If you didn't know Xiomara is an European name since it has origins from Spain, so your comment doesn't make any sense.
The name Xiomara was given to 220 girls born in the US in 2015.
This is the name of one of the characters of the show ; Jane the Virgin. Xiomara is the name of the mother of the protagonist. Xiomara is a very fun and funny character on the show.
It means a princess and the first female warrior.
Exotic, beautiful and unique! :D.
I love this name: exotic, but not too out-there for modern-day use. I actually grew up in a largely Hispanic neighborhood, so I have met several girls named Xiomara, and it only made me love the name more.
And I agree with a previous user, it's nice to see a great name starting with an 'X'.
I think Xiomara is really beautiful, interesting, and, to me, exotic-sounding and cultured. It sounds strong and feminine, and it has an unconventional glamour, much more interesting than Mara. This would be a really cool name to use.
I love this name. It's one of my favorite names, when people ask me what's your favorite name I say Xiomara and they think that's a weird name, but I don't care. If I ever have a girl I will name her Xiomara.
Xiomara is the name of one of the models in Cycle 1 of America's Next Top Model.
I think this name is dreadful and uninspired. This name would sound more classy as simply Mara.
I love this name, but it reminds me of the words See You 'Morrow.
Pronounced "SEE-o-mara" or "ZEE-o-mara".
I like this. You don't see many names starting with 'x' anymore.
