Meaning & History

From the name of 7th-century Islamic jurist and scholar Ibn Shihab az-Zuhri, whose name was derived from the Banu Zuhrah clan. It can also be derived from Indonesian and Malay zuhur meaning "midday, noon", ultimately from Arabic ظهر (ẓuhr), given to boys born around noon during the midday prayer (Dhuhr).
