[Facts] Pronunciation of Matthias?
Does anyone know the correct pronounciation for the name Matthias or the correct way to pronouce it in English? A friend of mine is planning to name her son Matthias nn Matt, and she is pronouncing the name "Math-e-us". I'm not certain that is right.

I could imagine that the (possible) English pronunciation meh-THY-ess would be avoided, because this sounds almost like "Messias".

In Holland, it's Ma-tee-us (no th sound!), rather than ma-thigh-us..

There may be more than one correct pronounciationIn Scandinavia and in Germany, we pronounce Matthias as Mah-TEE-us. No th-sound, as in Thomas. To me, Matthias is not a traditional English name like Matthew. Therefore the pronounciaton may vary and some people use a non-English one.

I've always heard mah-THIGH-us, with the "THIGH" part like the word "thigh." Array

I agree with Array. That's the conventional/accepted (American) pron., altho other languages might differ.
