[Opinions] Kai and Nye
I have always loved the name Kai, but recently I have started to like Nye as a fn too. However, I don't think I could use both names in the same sib set as they are too similar. WDYT? Are they too alike to be brothers?Otherwise, I could use Nye as a mn. What names do you think would be good fns for Nye?ThanksFirChlis

I like Kai only as a middle name. I find it too insubstantial as a first name.I can't stand Nye, sorry. It's rather ugly sounding. Kai and Nye rhyme--do NOT NOT NOT use them for brothers!

I love Kai, it's on my list, but I dislike Nye. I do like Nile though.

Warning: graphic contentOkay. I feel I must me honest here. No hard feelings or anything. Firstly I am unsure how to pronounce these names so correct me if I'm wrong. Kai sounds like a letter to me & not a name - it lacks substance imo. "Nye" if it is pronounced N-eye means "F**k" in Afrikaans. Sorry to be so graphic, but that's what it means. It would be totally unusable in South Africa. Neither of these names have caught on in South Africa btw & I do think they are hopelessly too similar & cutesy for brothers. Hope you weren't offended by this response. That was not my intention. I just wanted to be honest :o) Correct me if I'm out of line. I'm open to the opinions of others.

You were wise to warn!
along the same lines..I didn't know, until I lived in Australia, that Fanny was a term for female genitalia. (I'm Canadian). Here, it's a quite polite and proper term for bum. this is the sort of thing that can trip up strangers!

Ok, I never knew that! That has put me off the name a bit. Why did it have to mean that?!Thanks for the warning btw!FirChlis

They are far too similar for siblings.I don't really like Nye, but whatever you do, dont name the kid Bill Nye (The Science Guy)

They are to similar in sound for me, as nn they would be fine or with one of them in the middle name slot as you have suggested.Looking at the other names in your profile I think Rufus Nye sounds okay.
Not really sure what else to suggest it works well with all sorts of names as long as they dont have an N at the beginning or end of them or a strong an Eye sound
David Nye, Edward Nye, Jacob Nye, Philip Nye,

I don't see why they can't be used in the same sibset.

I just thought that maybe they sounded too alike, rhymed too much? Do you think that they wouldn't feel as individual as they would if they had totally different names?ThanksFirChlis

Um..I see your point. They may not feel as individual.
