[Opinions] Dara
I'm curious as to how you pronounce Dara. Do you say 'dair-ah' or 'dahr-ah'?Also, what do you think of it? Is it a name that appeals to you; is it a name that you would use?

Thanks for all the responses!Dara isn't a name that I'd seriously consider. Daria is really more my style, however there was something simply and to-the-point about Dara that attracted me. However, I think the love affair was shortly lived as right now, the name is doing nothing for me. :/Thanks again for all the responses!

Probably "dahr-ah."For a girl, Dara is just alright, although I don't like Daria much better. I love Dara for a boy, especially as a middle name. I think it has nice meanings for either gender- my favorite is the Khmer "star." I can see how it's not some peoples' style, though.

I say dahr-ah. I think its nice, but I am much more inclined towards Daria, which I also thought was very sweet, feminine and pretty. I don't think I would use Dara for my own child, but I will definitely consider Daria when the time arises :-)

I've heard it as DAH-ra. I used to know a girl named Dara (DAH-ra) Lynn, which is perhaps the TACKIEST thing I've ever seen. For a guy, I don't mind it. For a girl it's NMS. It's too close to Daria, which is the animated definition of MTV, or, in my dictionary, TACKY. Sorry.

I say DAHR-ah.I think Dara is sweet, I'm not certain how well it would age but I do like it. I don't think I would use it, but I'm not entirely certain why.I prefer Dara for a girl, but it's also nice on a boy.Adding that I also like all of the meanings for Dara.

Boy: always DAWRaGirl: I'm inclined to say DAWRa, but I know a DAYRa so I think of it as having 2 equally legit pronunciations. I like both.

I would say "DAHR-uh."Dara isn't a favorite of mine. But I don't have anything particular against it. It has a slight feeling of trying to be different but not quite having the guts to go all the way. I suppose because I'm more used to Daria. I don't know if that makes sense.

Personally, I'd say DARE-uh. Don't hear that one too often at all. I always liked it. I think both pronunciations are acceptable.

I say DAHR-ah, to rhyme with Mara and Lara. The only Dara (a girl) I've met IRL pronounced it DAIR-uh, though. I do like the name, but I wouldn't use it because there are so many names I love more.

I would say DAH-ra, unless I met someone with this name who prn'd it otherwise. It's a sweet little name; seems perhaps a tiny bit insubstantial to me and would probably do well with a long mn. It does appeal, and I would appreciate meeting someone else's little one named Dara.

I pronounce it 'dah-rah'. Not a name I'd use, I think of it as a nn for Darinka (my cousin's name).

DAHR-ah. Are you thinking it for a boy or a girl? I like it for a boy, but I think I prefer Darragh. Not sure about it for a girl!

DAHR-ah, and while I think it's fine, I much prefer Daria. And yes, the character did influence that preference. ;)Array

I would pronounce it DAH-rah as in Dara O'Briain (the Irish comedian).I love it for a boy and I think I would use it, maybe as a middle name though *ponders Charles Dara*.

I pronounce it 'dah-rah'. I personally wouldn't use it, but it's a cute name. :)

DAH-ra. There's something about it that sounds really dorky to me for some reason, I don't know why.... In my head Dara is someone who wears an anorak and has a calculator in her front pocket at all times. The sound is nice, but that's my association lol.

Dahr-rah.It's okay-ish. Out of the -ara names, I would much prefer Lara.
