[Opinions] Hester
What are your thoughts on this name? I'm loving the quirky old lady vibe I get from it. What do you think of the nickname Hettie for it? Would you use a different nickname?Thank you!

Love the name!I really, REALLY love it! It is only slightly eclipsed by the love I feel for Esther. Hettie is cute, but I would probably go for something like Hessie.

I love Hester it's so weird and cool all at the same time. It does have a bit of an old lady vibe but in a good way. I find it hard to imagine the name on a little girl though.
I love the name Hettie sp Hetty, I always think of it as a nn for Henrietta but I guess it could work on Hester. I can't think of any other nn Hessie maybe? Is that weird?

Its actually grown on me. I read Mortal Engines and one of the main female characters is Hester "Hettie". I still think I prefer Esther though..

Hester is Esther's ugly cousin. I prefer Esther nn Ettie.

Reminds me of the book also, but I love the book and not the name.;d

I agree with JessicaI love the book, but the name Hester doesn't sound attractive to me at all. It's too bad because Hester Prynne is a very interesting character; her name is just unappealing.

Love the book, love the nameMainly because of the character. I think I like Esther slightly more for phonetics, but I like Hester more because it's a bit less heard and because of the association. I like Hettie too.

I love Hester, and I think Hettie's adorable! However, I prefer Hetty.

I think it sounds kind of ugly... and not at all fem... It's like Chester w/o the C... and makes me think of Charlton Heston's last name... (not someone I'd be into associating w/ after he inisisted on continuing w/ plans for the NRA rally in Columbine after the incident that happened there in the school).

Well I had to look that up, but I do understand what you mean. That's pretty awful of him to do. Though, Hester doesn't remind me of Heston at all, which is I guess good for me. ^-^

oops... double postHenrietta's a bit better as full names for Hettie go. It at least doesn't remind me of a cross between Chester and Heston.

I do like Henrietta as well. The only thing that makes me like Hester more is the meaning.

I've always had a soft spot for Hester, but I don't care for Hettie at all.:)Danielle
