[Opinions] May.
What do you think of just 'May' as a first name?
Do you think it would be weird if someone called May wasn't born in May?
Do you think it's better as a nickname for example: Mabel, Margaret, Maelle?
Have you met any May's and how old were they?

I like it.
I don't know about that one. My middle name is May and I was born in June. I don't think it really matters.
I prefer it as a full name.
Well, my middle name is May. I also know a Mae who is really young... maybe 3-ish.

I like it, and don't think it matters when she was born - I tend to think of may trees rather than the month. It's very sweet and flowery without being too fancy, and fine as a full name. It's also rather overused here atm as a middle name, so it would be nice to see it in first place for a change.

I love May. It's so sweet and simple. I don't think it would be weird if the child wasn't born in May; it really makes no difference to me, when it comes to month names. You could also spell it Mae to avoid that if it bugs you (but personally, I like May better.) I prefer it by itself rather than as a nickname. And I don't know any Mays, but May is my grandmother's middle name (she is Nancy May.)

I adore May. I think's fine as a first name, but it makes a wonderful nn as well. I wouldn't necessarily expect May to be born in May.I've never met a May, but I'm reading a book right now with a character named May and it's making me love it even more.

I like May. (I also like Maya and Maisie but that's another story!)I don't think it would be weird for a May not to be born in May - any more than I expect April or Avril to be born in April or even June in June.I have a niece - born this morning called Hilda-Mae. The only other Mays I have met are old women and it was probably a nn.

I actually know a little girl named Mae. She is about 9 years old or so. Her grandmother's name was Mabel and I believe she is named after her. I prefer Mae as a first name over May. But both are cute. I've considered using this name. There is something just so sweet about the name Mae. I don't think it needs to be a nickname for anything. And I don't think you have to be born in May to be named May. I know plenty of people named April who weren't born in April.

It's not really my style. I think it's too short and simple to be a first name on its own. I much prefer it as a nickname. I think it would be a sweet nickname for Mabel or Maelle. I don't think it would be weird on someone who wasn't born in May. I've never met any May's.

I'm called May sometimes by my friend Xavier. I don't think so. April, maybe, but May is name-y enough. It depends on the combo. May is a better middle name for me because I'm not a huge fan of one-syllable first names. Any of those name work, I'm a Margaret personally though so I'm a teensy bit biased.I've met a three-year-old May.

I like May, and also Mae, but I'd use them only as middle names.I know one May, and she wasn't born in May, and she's about 70 now. I don't think being born in May is a qualification for the name. Using May as a nn I think is fine.

1. I really like it. It's so simple and sweet.
2. No. I think it would be weirder if someone born in May was named May.
3. I actually prefer it on its own, but it's a nice nn too.
4. Not that I can think of. But I know a few Aprils. :P

I prefer the Mae spelling of the name to May. May is an auxiliary verb and as a fn always makes me think of a phrase rather than a name. For example, May Amelia. May Amelia come to our house for dinner? May Amelia sleep over tonight? It's so distracting. Plus, Mae West was so irreverent, you have to love her spunk. So for those reasons I can't quite warm up to May as a name. Spell it Mae and I'm happily on board. I wouldn't expect anyone named May to be born in May any more than I would for April June or August, Noel or Winter. They evoke feelings more than actual birth dates, to me. I prefer May as a nn, but it can stand on its own.I've never met a May. But my grandmother Elizabeth Mary went by Lizzie May (I'm guessing on the spelling of both of those names. She died when my mother was very young.)

May is one of my absolute favorite names!! I love it so much-it might just be one of the best names there is! And no, I don't think it would be weird if little May wasn't born in May-in fact, that would be better, because if she was it would just seem like she was named after the month she was born in, and that's just lame. And no, May doesn't need to be a nickname for something-it's perfect as a stand-alone name! Unfortunately I have never met any May's :( I have only seen them as characters in movies and plays-for example, the one from Pokemon (loved that show as a kid ^^) and in a play that my school did last year, which was set in 1969. But May is a wonderful name!

I think it's too short as a full name, for me anyways.
I think it would be weirder for someone to be named May because they were born in May than if they were not.
I love Mabel nn May, very cute!
The only person I knew of named May (well, it was Mae) was my husbands great grandmother, so she would have been born in the very early 1900's.
