[Opinions] Lionel
Still trying to decide on a name for baby boy due in a few months. What are your opinions on the name Lionel? We would be pronouncing it Lee-oh-NEL as my husband’s family is Spanish. Nickname Leo. Thoughts?? Middle name ideas also appreciated!Other names we are considering are Rowan and Henry. Thanks!

I like Lionel a lot. I like Leo as a diminutive of this name, it's cute for a boy and masculine for an adult man. I find Lionel a very charming name. I like Rowan very much too, although I'm not a particular fan of Henry. I think that a combo Lionel Rowan would be great.

It reminds me of Lionel Messi, which is not bad. Its alright, not my favorite. I kind of like Rowan and Henry more.

I think it's very beautiful. I like it more than Rowan and Henry.

I like it, and I definitely prefer the Spanish pronunciation. A few middle name ideas:Lionel José
Lionel Arturo
Lionel Salvador
Lionel Carlos
Lionel Osvaldo
Lionel Isaias

I think if you live in an English speaking country that pronunciation is going to be a headache at best and and impossible at worst.

i don't think Lionel is common enough for the English pronunciation to be known? most i feel like would assume it's pronounced the way OP is pronouncing it, even if they didn't live in a bilingual city.

Mostly I've heard English-speakers pronounce the first two syllables like the English word "lion", which is how Lionel Richie pronounces his name.

In the US, everyone is going to pronounce it LIE-e-nel. No, it's never been common, but it was the name of a character on "All in the Family", and later the character appeared in the popular sitcom "The Jeffersons". And most people have probably heard of Lionel Barrymore, especially since a movie he was in, "It's a Wonderful Life", has become a Christmas classic. Not that his real name is uttered in the movie, but I still think exposure to the film has familiarized many with the actor who would not otherwise be familiar with him.

And Lionel Richie! Not that I'm a fan of his, but it's what came to mind first.

Lol, when my family does trivia nights if we don't know the answer to a music related question we always answer "Dancing on the Ceiling by Lionel Ritchie". My first thought whenever I see Lionel.

Oh yeah, him too.

I live in a bilingual (English & French) city so most people speak both languages. Since Lionel is pronounced the same way in Spanish and French I don’t think it’ll be a problem for a lot of people.

Ooh, how about Henry Lionel??? That sounds handsome. Never thought I'd actually like Henry, though, but someone I follow on Twitter just had a baby Henry, soooooo...
