Help[Opinions] Sybil
Okay, y'all. What do we think about the name Sybil? It's very vintage, and the nickname that comes to mind is Sybbie. I'm totally influenced by the Downton Abbey character named Sybil, so I wonder what anyone who hasn't seen the show thinks about the name.

I'm not enamoured (yet?) but I'm intrigued by this name. It's vintage, enchanting, a little bit quirky, reminds me of Sylvia (and I love Sylvia); and there are too many spelling variants (and I'm not sure it's a good thing).
Well, people seem to favour Sybil, not an original Sibyl. I also like Sybilla and Sybella.

I have seen Downton, and also completely adore it because of her and Sybbie. I do think independently of the character, it's fun and sweet, and Sybbie especially is super adorable. I think the fact it feels so usable on a young woman and child shows that it could easily work irl and is ready for a (not too big) revival.

I don't mind it, but it lacks personality IMO so I wouldn't consider it. I've never met a Sybil: it sounds like the beginning of 'sibilant', but that doesn't bother me. It's got a good, classical pedigree - I just don't take it seriously. ETA I've never watched Downton Abbey.

I adore Sibylla and love Sibyl. I can't abide the "Sybil" spelling because I majored in Ancient Greek, and my rigid brain refuses to recognize "Sybil" as a possibility because the Greek letters that are transliterated as "y" and "i" are distinct. (That's annoying, I know, but I can't help it LOL)

I like it somewhat in theory. It has a bit of a hard edge to it, I think. I imagine someone quite of stern. That, and I am reminded of the book "Sybil" about a woman with multiple personalities. It just does not have a happy feel about it.

I just started binge watching the show this weekend and it's completely interfering with my life this week now lmao! But no I still don't like the name regardless, it's too culturally tied to Sybil with the alternative personalities in the book and film. Plus the sound is unappealing to me like the drip of a sink. I do like Sybella alright though.

I should have never started lmao it would have been an excellent lockdown show to watch, too bad it wasn't on American Netflix yet during that time. I do like several of the names on the show though I'm warming up to William again *sobs uncontrollably because he died recently in the episodes I'm at* It doesn't help that the actor that plays him looks exactly like my brother-in-law whose a very very sweet soul :' I'm also digging Mary again recently though I'm never really sour on it I just alternate between liking it at a 6/10 to an 8/10. Violet is my favorite name there and Daisy the character had her name perfectly picked imo.

I love it because of Sybil Ludington a historical figure from U.S. History. I do picture of a spunky spiky brown haired middle aged woman.
