[Opinions] Grace
I'm listening to Grace Jones right now, so I'm inspired to ask about Grace. What do you think? Does it need a long rest, or is it still fresh? **After supposedly dying on January 30, 2007 after eating tainted pancakes, she returned several times as an angel and was revealed to be alive on May 17, 2011. )**

Used to hate it, now find it sweet.

Grace, to me, is a name from Opposite Land. Its virtuous meaning can refer either to elegance in action / behavior, or bestowed favor. But its sound is a frozen fist to the ear. Even if it doesn't hold true for the bearer at all, Grace is one of the iciest names I've ever encountered. So while its newfound popularity baffles me, it has been ubiquitous for long enough that it fits alongside Anna, Margaret, Elizabeth, etc. as one of the "classics."

That's like the perfect description of it tbh

I still like Grace. I go through periods when I don't, but right now I see its sweetness and quiet beauty. As a middle name, it needs to go nite nite. Long sleep, bye bye. It's kind of like Emily for me. It still has something, I don't know what, that brings it out of the trend hole for me. When paired with something unexpected, as in Grace Thomasina, or when coupled with an interesting sibling name, Grace and Antonia, for instance, it seems elegant. Grace Olivia is so boring it makes me dislike Grace. Emma and Grace or Sophia and Grace etc. make my eye twitch but then I quickly fall asleep.

It's fresh, I like it. Very beautiful meaning.

It needs a rest.

It's a very beautiful name, and I'd use it in a heartbeat. I'm sort of basic, since I love the combination of Grace Marie.

I don't like Grace. Something to do with the sound, and perhaps the popularity. I will admit, it is sometimes a handy middle name and often fits well in that spot. I also feel like it's too much for someone to have to live up to - what if Grace isn't graceful? Why should females aspire to be graceful?
I suppose there is the other meaning of grace: kindness and generosity of spirit. Maybe I'm ready to hear Grace on a boy.

Grace on a boy...if that becomes a trend, it could change the naming business forever, and in a good way But you know parents are not going to give their sons virtue names. The age old tradition is slapping virtues on girls.I'd like Grace as a nickname for Greyson. It works, but I think I'd have to change the spelling. There are a number if femenine names that I'm beginning to like on boys..

Agreed. As a kid I was really clumsy so my classmates would call me "graceless grace" and say I was the most poorly named individual ever, lmao!I prefer the kindness and generosity meaning as well.

I think the main stereotype I associate is materialistic conformist Southern Baptist, which does not leave me with a good impression. It sounds trendy like Greyson / Grayson and also holier-than-thou in a matronly way.If I could put all that baggage down, I don't think I'd really dislike it, considering I'm fond of virtue names, as a group. But yeah, it's got loads of baggage imv, so I don't find it fresh.

It's kind of elegant, but I would like it more if only it were not used so much as a middle name. I can compare it to Marie in that manner; I'm bored of it, but it's undoubtedly pretty.I prefer Gracie. It might be "infantile" but at least it's fresh.

I love Grace. Actually, I like Gracie better, but I know that’s a minority opinion. I would totally still use it.

I'd also prefer Gracie.

I'm one of the minority too. :)

It's my sister's name (well, the one she goes by. It's actually her middle name, and to be honest I cannot for the life of me figure out why she wouldn't rather go by her first name, which is Maria) and it's the middle name of about 30% of girls I know. Unfortunately, most of those girls are your stereotypical "mean girl" (there are exceptions, obviously. Both my sister and one of my closest friends have this as a middle name and don't fit that stereotype) so I don't have the best associations with the name either. It does definitely need a break.

Yes? LolAgree with Ani, it's both. It's both too old and too modern in the same breathe. Grace Jones is an interesting reminder. Secondarily after my namesake Grace Kelly, I will think of Gracie Allen and George Burns. I have a complicated relationship with my name. I both love it and think it is completely me but also sometimes think it isn't me at all. Grace could be a wide variety of people imo, but mostly what comes to mind, to me, is blonde, very slim, very beautiful women who are high born and well read, and of course elegant and "graceful". That is a LOT for anybody to live up to. People have expressed expectations of me being anything from beauty queen to skillful musician to poised dancer to craftfully witty. And though I am pretty but I'm more "Veronica" to Grace's "Betty". (See Betty vs Veronica Trope) I have my talents but I've never been exceptionally talented at anything. And forget graceful, I trip when I'm out walking. As a child it wasn't quite as popular again yet so people would tell me it was pretty and you didn't hear it as much anymore. There was only 1 other Grace in my K-12 school and she was a lot older than I. That made me feel special and unique. But that came to an end once I was about middle school aged and it shot up in popularity again within my region.I've never really "fully" identified with my name and as I've expressed previously have considered changing it multiple occasions as a result. I've actually met several Grace's besides myself whom the name seemingly suited a lot better. Grace also has a hyper religious aura around it. Though my mom named me for the princess my father agreed only because of the religious connections and arguments for it. That can have it's own issues in a way. For me particularly since I'm not as religious anymore and more spiritual in nature. It's like a coat that you put on for the first time in 10 years. It still technically fits but the style isn't who you are anymore.

My friend Grace's brother nicknamed her Dis, and for a while it stuck! It's not particularly popular where I live, so I think of it as a religious rather than a popular name.

Here it is both religious And popular! A fun combination lol

I think it’s right in the middle of those two things. I kind of like it, though it is kind of tainted by the dozens of Grace’s I know.
