Message: "Lucina" - Behind the Name

My DH and I have been considering the name Lucia if the baby we're expecting in September is a girl. (Lucia is for his maternal grandmother, Lucille.) I recently noticed the name Lucina in a baby name book, and it caught my eye. My mother's name is Katrina (known as Tina), and my father's three sisters are Tina, Rina and Nina (way too cutesy, but I love them dearly!), so the -ina ending is particularly appealing to me. On this site, I found that Lucina is a Roman goddess of childbirth. So, what are your opinions on Lucina?

It is very pretty, and I love the nn Lucie. I prefer Lucia though.

It's a pretty name, and I prefer it to Lucia. The family tradition is a neat bonus! :)

I also like "Lucy" as a nickname.

It's really pretty! And since it has a special connection to your families (times five!) I say go for it. And Lucina Agnes Marie is excellent. Hooray for another child with a great name :)

It's very pretty, I like it a lot. I personally still prefer Lucia and Lucinda, though.

I like Lucina, and think it would do a nice job of honoring lots of people.

How are you pronouncing Lucia? That will settle my opinion on which one I prefer.

Lucina Agnes Marie is very pretty.

We've been pronouncing it loo-SEE-ah. Coming from a half-Italian family, I love the prn loo-CHEE-ah as well, but I'm sure no one would ever get this right, at least not here in the US. :)

Yay!

That's the only one I like. Lucia wins over Lucina, but Lucina would be a nice way to honor everyone. And if it got to be to much, she could always go by Lucy.

LUCINA is GREAT!

I really think that this would be the best name for you... expecially since you have alot of -ina's to honor.

It is nice! (also love the meaning!)

Thanks! If we use Lucia (or Lucina) her middle names will be Agnes Marie. Agnes is my maternal grandmother's name, and Marie is my mother's middle name.
