Help[Opinions] Jake, Evelyn, Lena & Cinema
While out Christmas shopping I hear some names that I thought were really nice.
A three-year-old little boy Jake and his baby sister Evelyn. I thought these were refreshing and a sweet sibset. WDYT?
Running through a craft store was a barely two-year-old girl who's mother was yelling "Lena!" after her. I adore the name Lena (though I tend to say lay-nuh instead of lee-nuh) and thought the name was so cute on this particular little girl. WDYT?
I've been thinking of word names recently and one I'd never thought of before popped out at me. WDYT or Cinema for a little girl? Too out-there, wild, movie buff-ish?
I'd love to hear ya'll opinions on all of these four names!

Jake: nice name, but a bit plain to me
Evelyn: sounds dated, but I love Eve
Lena: I probably would like this name except it reminds me of a mean neighbor lady

I *love* the name Jake. I'm naming my first son Jake (not Jacob, just Jake)
I really like Evelyn too, I think Jake and Evelyn sound cute together.
Lena is okay, but I don't know about Cinema, it's too much of a word name for me.
Why do I have to decide what to do with my life now? Can't I go back to bed until I'm 30 and decide then?

I love Jacob without a nn but I dislike Jake immensely. I know 2 dogs called Jake for a start so that is my immediate association, but I also know so many kids called Jake from my age group down to my little brothers' age groups.
I love Evelyn...it is so pretty! I know it is getting more popular but I am yet to meet a little Evelyn.
Lena is gorgeous as well. I prefer is pronounced lay-nah but lee-na is cute too.
I really don't like Cinema...it screams trashy to me. I can tolerate Cinnamon which is a similar sound though.

I agree that Cinnamon is better than Cinema. My mother used to know a little girl named Cinnamon. When I first heard the name, I was kind of shocked that someone would use the word "cinnamon" as a first name, but it seems tolerable now. Just not something I would use.

Yeah when I lived in New Zealand I had a friend named Cinnamon that lived down the road in a bus with her family. Her parents were kind of hippy-ish...I think her mother may have been into holistic medicine and her dad an artist (I was only 6 or 7 at the time). All of the kids had fairly unusual names but I didn't think much of it at the time. All I remember was playing with dolls with her and the brilliant colour of her hair...it was this gorgeous rich auburn colour. :)

Jake - I think Jake is cute and a good nn for Jacob.
Evelyn - Reminds me of my seventy-something year old aunt.
Lena - An okay name. When I hear it I want to picture a little blonde haired girl who is Swedish.
Cinema - Not something I like or think fits as a name. Maybe it has to do with working at a movie theatre that has cinema in the title of it.

I really dislike Jake, and it doesn't sound fresh to me at all - it's been well and truly overdone in recent years in Australia. I feel that it spoils Evelyn.
Evelyn and Lena are both lovely.
Cinema is absurd sorry - quite apart from its obvious wordyness, there's plenty of teasing-word potential (sin and enema are two that spring to mind) and it's not a particularly pleasing sound either. Nor does it have the advantage of being a particularly good namesake for a child. What does being named "cinema" impart to the child? That they ought to aspire to be a big building full of seats? I really don't like it, and I would assume a "trashy" background if I did meet a child named Cinema.

Jake actually seems anything but refreshing to me. Jacob is the top name for boys in the U.S. and many go by Jake. Evelyn is very pretty, but it's starting to become popular. I like Lena as well. Lena seems fairly uncommon for babies and toddlers these days.
I feel the same way about Cinema as I do about Camera, which I have actually seen used as a first name. I don't care for Cinema as a name, sorry. I think that cinema and camera should remain exclusively as words.

Jake = yawn. It might be jaunty, but there are so many decidedly uninteresting Jakes that I'm sick of hearing it. Evelyn is not to my tastes at all, oddly enough.
I love Lena, only prn. LEE-nah.
