Honest opinion of Charmaine?
Looking for a female honor name for Charles. Charlotte is too common (and vetoed by hubby) and Charleen I simply don't like. Debated going with Charlie since it will be a middle name anyway.

1. Charmaine makes me think of toilet paper.2. It doesn't sound elegant or tasteful (but rather the opposite).3. Since it's going to be a mn, you could use Charlotte or even Caroline, Carolina, Carla or Carlotta.

Honestly? I absolutely hate it. I think Charlie seems tacky, but it's not insanely terrible. How about:
Lottie / Lotte / Lotta?
Caroline / Carolina?
Karla / Carla?
Carol / Carole / Carola? There's quite a lot of options!

Charmaine works as a shelf packer. Her yellow hair has black roots, and her legs are plump, unshaven and on display under a very short skirt. She takes too many smoke breaks, and defends herself by saying "You must die of something". Add a decade to the age she admits to, and you'll be close to the truth.OK, so what about Charmian? I wouldn't use it, but it's the best of a bad bunch, unless you go the Caroline route.

Sorry but I really dislike Charmaine. It's definitely a name that I would call chavvy" (UK). I can just see a fat woman in a tracksuit bellowing 'CHARMAAAAAAINE' across the park at her kid.

I'd go with Charli/ Charlie to honour Charles. I don't mind Charmaine as a name but the main Charmaine I know makes it have a "white trash" feel to it...

Charmaine is a name that seems to me tacky, and I don't think that about many names.

Good call, hubby, Charlotte is too common indeed! Charleen is pretty dated. I would totally go with Charlie if it's in the middle name spot. Charmaine is really tacky, to me. Sorry. Some more ideas:
Chara
Charis
Charissa
Charisse
Charla
Charlize
CharlottaDepending on the first name and how it flows, my first choice would be Charlie. Second choice Charlize.

Personally not a fan. If you like it, go for it.
I just prefer charlotte

Well, I would rather be Charlie than Charmaine. Charmaine reminds me of toilet paper- please don't squeeze the Charmaine. Blah. Also, I would never hear that name and think it was honoring Charles.

I don't hate it, but, like New_Chloe, I feel it does have negative connotations here (I'm in the UK), though I couldn't begin to guess why. I also prefer Charmian / Charmion, if only due to my childhood association with Charmian Carr who played Liesl in The Sound of Music. Have you encountered Charlotta or Charis before?

Never heard of Charmion, will investigate that. Thanks! Charis is nice, and actually know two, but they pronounce it kare-is. Charlotta is nice, though I think I like the sound of Carlotta better. In any case, names that end in -a wont work as middles for Paulina.
edit: Looked up Charmion! It means "delight", and I like it. Paulina Charmion would mean "my little delight"... which is sweet.

Charmaine isn't related to Charles at all. If you want to honor Charles with a girl, there's always Charlize, Charlayne, Carlotta, Carla, Caroline or Carolina.
I never liked Charmaine because it reminds me both of chow mein and Sharmin toilet paper, as in, don't squeeze.

My choices, Charlize, or Charlayne.(Or Charlaine, that spelling, but I like the "y".)

That might have just been a typo on your part, but the toilet paper is spelled Charmin, which makes it even more like Charmaine.

I couldn't remember how to spell itThere is an old country-western novelty song called Please Don't Squeeze My Sharmin, spelled that way, I think. Sharmin is his girlfriend.

Nope.. not related, but started with char-... so I figured it might work. I do like Charlize though. Paulina Charlize isnt too bad.

You're right, it does work.

It's pretty, but it reads weird. I can't see it as a first name, for some reason. It's sounds like some medieval princess or something.

It's considered a "slutty" name where I live, but I do think it's kind of pretty. It has a sort of 30's vibe for me, for some reason. I prefer Charmian. What about Caroline?

slutty, really? Whew... never would have thought. Where are you (feel free to be general). And, is there a storybook or movie or something that lends to the negative connotation?

I don't think it's from a certain character. There are just some names that seem to belong to a stereotypical type of person in my area. Charmaine, Chantal, Destiny, Brandy, and Chasity are some examples that spring to mind. I'm not sure if it's a thing in my city, or even just in my little corner of the city, or what. I live in Winnipeg, Canada.

Honestly my first thought was slutty too. I'm in the northeast US. I've never met a Charmaine but I think there must have been a character in a movie that had that name and that association.Personally I don't mind the name and I think it would be nice as a mn. And from what others have said, I don't think most people would have that same association. Wish I could remember what movie - seems like maybe 'Blast from the Past'?
