Re: Top Ten for September
Patience- I do love this... more in theory than practice though, as this is not a virtue that I possess in spades...people who know me would laugh endlessly if I chose to bestow this on a child of mine ;-)
Phoebe- one of my absolute favourites
Millicent- I really do like this. And I love Millie. I just wish it didn't call millipedes (shudder) and 'militant' to mind. Still, I'd be thrilled to meet a little girl named Millicent.
Priya - I went through a long period in my early twenties wherein this was a favourite of mine. It doesn't top my lists these days, and hasn't for years, but I do look upon it with fondness.
Hattie- only as a nickname for Harriet
Morgana- not a fan, personally... it's the "morg"sound...the hard 'g' that distinguishes it from the 'org' in George names that seems harsh and is just unpleasant to my ears.
Georgiana- pretty, but I do prefer Georgina and Georgia
Prudence- I like the meaning...but can't get past "prude". Too burdensome for any girl to carry through the awkward teenage years, I think. My friend has a cat named Prudence though, and I love it on her. BOYS:Benjamin- this is one of my most favourite "common classic" boy names
Rufus- LOVE this, it's on my own list. It's just so cool.
Ivor- y? Igor? Not my cup of tea.
Willoughby- swoon. I don't know how practical it is though. I always ask myself when I think about naming sons...would a grown man be happy to have this as his name. I'm not sure this passes that litmus test. But it does have the ever handsome Will to fall back on.
Edgar- another love. So dapper and masculine.
Frederick- one of my top choices if we have another son. My late grandfather's name. I love both Fred and Freddy as well.
Jude- I love this, but I prefer it as a nickname for Judah (I soooo love Judah, always have, since my teens) strong possibility for a future son as it would comply with traditional second son initials
Noah- This is nice enough, but done to death around these parts, so I'm a little burnt out on it. But I grew up with the cutest little boy next door named Noah, so I do like it.
Julian- I have always found this to be wimpy and limp. The potential of the nickname Jules? Ugh! No thanks. And then the beloved Canadian show "Trailer Park Boys"? No it's just laughable to me. Nonetheless, I would take it any day over a lot of names I hear...
Rory- My husband has a thirtysomething cousin named this, and he's pretty cool, so I have a positive association. My son names all his dinosaurs Roary though ;)
