HelpSass' class ft. Meret, Trendelina, Gioia, Carol, Sky & Leilani
Sass' teacher is a bit slower than Boofs so we only just got her class list yesterday. It's a combined 1st to 3rd class, so the kids are aged 6-9 years, and we live in a very expat community so that usually makes for an interesting mix! Siblings where I know them, grouped by gender.

I like Sofia and Valeria. This feels like such a Russian sibset, for some reason. Valeria "Lera" and Sofia "Sona" would be cute as hell.
Luana is horrible. Very fuddy.
Laurin - Lauren, Loren or Laurent not good enough? Even Laurence? I must say, I don't like Lauren-esque names on a boy, but this also looks wrong written down.
Carol on a little girl is cute. I prefer Caroline, though.
Gioia is horrible. Bleargh.
Inessa - shame. Ines would be awesome. Norah gets a lot of love, but I hate it.
Livia is kind of cool. And it's cute wih Giulia (she def. got the best name though). Shame about Stella. I just really don't like that name.

Trëndelina? Whaaaaat? That sounds like a cutesy word for a super faddish clothing trend or something.

There are some really awesome names here.
I really like Leilani, Sky (for a boy, it's So Cool), Yannic, Inessa, Kea, Trëndelina, Mona, Monika, Vincent, Elena, and Milo.
I was surprised to see Valeria in there. I usually only see that name in a prospective or fictional setting. Valeria is actually a character in one of Richard Laymon's books. She's well loved by the community. The fact that the character is really ... attractive... makes me want to like the name, but it still isn't one I'm really into. It's one of those that sends mixed signals, you know?
Also, I have a soft spot for the name Aaron. It's not a name I generally use, unless its for a side character. My manager made this name grow on me. He's a really cool person and the name just fits him. His work-based friendship gave me an affinity for the name. I have no idea how to feel about Ruben with an s on the end though. It's just one punctuation mark from being Ruben's Aaron ...

Hahaha no, that's just their nicknames! Their real names are super-boring. You can actually find them on the class lists if you go looking, I just prefer not to repeat them over and over.
Sass because she's 6 going on 16 with major attitude, Boof because she smashes her way through life, and Pixie cause when she was born we all called her Piccolina ("the little one") which quickly got shortened to Pics because I'm Australian and we shorten words as much as we can, which even more quickly got lengthened to Pixie.
Actually IRL I more often call her Bean and Beanie than Pixie now. I have no idea where Bean came from, but it stuck.

I think it's ironic that Trendelina has the word "trend" in it. Though, I suppose Krea8alina would be more accurate.
However - take a look at this similar name (which means "sweet briar")...
Trendafilka , BtN lists Trena as the diminutive or nickname.

Gioia I am especially fond of, as it is my maiden name, and my daughter's middle name. Plus, it's pretty and I love when people use it (though it used to be so common).
Luana I like, and I have an aunt with this name.
Leilani is one of the more recognizable Hawaiian names, and I always thinks its refreshing.
Laurin, Carol and Junis is an awesome sibset, I really like it.
Meret, Mona, Milo, Rubens and Tiago are just nice choices imo.

I don't know how Milo is pronounced (Sass can't read yet) but we live in Switzerland, so it's probably not the English pronunciation. J's are usually Y's here, so Jelena is probably not with the English pronunciation either, and I know both Junis' are Yoo-nis.
Gioia is the Italian spelling. I find Inessa and Norah to be an odd pairing too. Tiago's family could easily be Portuguese/Spanish. Boof has two Spanish girls in her kindergarten - Vega and Apollina (not siblings). Most of the neighbourhood are Expat or half Swiss/half something else families.

The name looks unusual to Americans (maybe UKers too)because there are so many vowels, but people get used to it quickly.
It is pronounced like jo-yah, or joy-ah if you say it fast. I.e. Joiya ;)
Jelena is lovely, especially with the "y" pronunciation.
Vega and Apollina are memorable.

It's very similar to Gianna and Giovanni and Giulia and other Italian names I was familiar with. There's no J in the Italian alphabet, for those who weren't already aware of that.
