Is Beatrix too much?
How do you feel about the name Emmeline Beatrix?
My husband and I decided to go with Emmeline for our baby due later this year, and we've been trying to find a middle name that we like. He likes Quinn and, much to my surprise, Beatrix (Apparently, it's a Final Fantasy character.) I'm not a fan of Quinn, so we're thinking Emmeline Beatrix may be the one we'll use.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but Beatrix seems like such a heavy name to me (maybe it's the ending of x?) I adore it, but I worry it'll seem like too much next to Emmeline. I asked my husband if he likes Beatrice, which I feel is a little softer, but he said definitely not-- only Beatrix.
What do you think?

Personally I prefer Beatrice out of the two but I do think that both names are a bit heavy. Maybe use a one syllable middle name?
I really WANT to like Beatrix, because in some ways it's very cool and I love the nn Bea. But I find the double vowel part a bit awkward and sticky :(. I suppose there is Bellatrix, but it's not really usable due to the HP association.
I love that your son is Griffin Henry btw.
Emmeline... I also really don't like, particularly with the line pronounciation. Many people will call her emmeleen on first seeing the name.
I also think Emmeline Beatrix doesn't flow so well. Emmeline ends in a 'n' sound, and therefore (IMO) needs a mn that starts either with a vowel, or a soft consonant (e.g r, s, f, h, l, v, w, x, z).
I would like Beatrix Emmeline rather a lot more.

Emmeline Beatrix flows very well, and middle names are seldom seen! If he loves it, let's face it, he could do a whole lot worse. Such as Quinn! I'd let him have it, with a warm, supportive smile.
As it happens, my mother was Beatrice, after her mother's mn, and my daughter is Beatrice because of both of them. So I do have my preferences! But there's always Beatrix Potter if you don't enjoy Final Fantasy.

Emmeline Beatrix is lovely! I really, really like it. I personally prefer Beatrix to Beatrice, but I think that has a lot to do with the Beatrix Potter association. Beatrix does have more weight to it, but I don't think it's too much. I think if your DH is prepared to give up Quinn (which I only like for boys!) and go with Beatrix, take him up on the offer! It's the mn anyway, so most people won't know it.

In general, I don't think Beatrix is too much. I actually know a girl who has an almost one-year-old daughter named Beatrix and they call her Bea. But I get what you mean about Beatrix being the "heavier" of the 2 names in the combo Emmeline Beatrix. I don't think it's a problem. I think it's good to have two names with different "feels" to even out the combo. I don't like Emmeline Quinn, and I think Emmeline Beatrix has a nice flow. They're both classic names and I think it's a good name combo. :)
I don't think so at all. It's lovely!
Emmeline Beatrix, eh? Hmmmm. I hear what you are saying about Beatrix being a bit heavy. I think the combo is actually very pretty, even if a bit heavy. I wouldn't let that stop you if you both love it.
I also think Emmeline Quinn is really sweet.
Not that you were asking, but how about Emmeline Bea?

We're pronouncing Emmeline as emma-line, not emma-leen. I do like the "leen" pronunciation, but I think it sounds so much like Emily when said aloud.
I'm not sure about a nickname. I'm sure she'll be called Emmy/Emme by friends throughout her life, but I usually just let nicknames evolve. I'd planned to call my son Griffin "Finn", but it never really happened naturally, so I didn't force it. I'm planning on exclusively calling her Emmeline.

I like Beatrix; it seems spunkier than Beatrice (names containing X usually do). I feel it provides a nice balance to Emmeline, actually. Emmeline seems more businesslike, down-to-earth, and regal, while Beatrix is fiery, flighty, and independent. But they're both feminine and recognizable in a way that isn't tired or predictable. They're different enough to be head-turners but not eye-crossers, I suppose. They're beautiful and they mesh really well; I see nothing wrong at all with these names, individually or in a combo. :) Best wishes and God bless!
I don't think Emmeline Beatrix is too much at all. In fact I think they compliment each other very well, both being names with a strong vintage vibe. Plus I love Beatrix a lot (much, much more than Quinn), and I quite like that Emmeline and Beatrix are both the names of very prominent women in history (although I personally am not a fan of Emmeline Pankhurst, but that's a whole other story haha), and Beatrix Potter kind of links back to Harry Potter too. Anyway, I think Emmeline Beatrix is a great name :).

LOVE IT!
I think this is a fantastic combo. Having considered both names for my own children, I'm a big fan :)

I think Beatrix is terribly affected and precious, and the combo Emmeline Beatrix is over-the-top Victorian-wannabe.
Is he against Beatriz as well?
I love Emmeline, and I really like Beatrice. My first association with the combo was "Harry Potter" though, since Emmeline is a character and so is Bellatrix. It's slightly different form Beatrix. But I still confuse the two of them, even though I'm a huge HP nerd. I wouldn't say it's a problem though . it's probably only me who thinks of HP, and I don't see it as a bad association either.
Emmeline Beatrix is great.
