Top 10 Croatia
Since our official popularity lists aren’t regular I always do my own top 10 for my city. Most larger cities publish birth announcements and apart from some regional differences lower on the list the top spots are the same country wide. I didn’t post 2012, so I combined 2012 and 2013. GIRLS:1. Lucija
2. Mia
3. Sara
4. Nika
5. Lana
6. Petra
7. Ema
8. Lara
9. Ana
10. Marija BOYS:1. David
2. Ivan
3. Jakov
4. Luka
5. Josip
6. Filip
7. Matija
8. Ivano
9. Marko
10. Leon Nothing new or earth shattering here, these have been in our top for the past decade at least. I am happy that Luka is falling, it’s been number one for almost 20 years.
Historically speaking, Ana, Marija, Ivan, Josip and Marko have been in top 10 since 1900 at least.

Nice names overall, but I can't say anything that really catches my eye. I'm wondering if Ema is part of the global Emma trend that's catching on?

Well, it is part of the global trend, but also in Croatia Ema (or Emma) was never used, so it's also a part of the 'new, foreign names' trend (which includes names like Leon, Lota, Sara, David, Benjamin, etc.).

Mia and Em(m)a seem to be popular just about everywhere! These lists are quite nice. I love Luka and am glad it's getting used somewhere (and now I see why the creators of ER chose Luka for the Croatian Dr. Kovac's first name, though I guess his parents were ahead of their time as he'd be in his 40s now).

I think I read in a interview that Goran Višnjić chose his character’s name. Luka, while not super-popular as now, has always been in common use (as in other Catholic countries all four Evangelist’s names were) and Kovač is a very common surname.
