Re: A few girl-y names
in reply to a message by Joiya
Molly - I think it's blah and childish.
Polly - extremely retro but it has some appeal, sounds like Paulie.
Holly - dated now. It's a nice name.
Milly - Eh. I'm not a fan of Milly, esp. not as a full name. As a nick, it's better.
Sally - retro like Polly but less particular. I like it as a full name.
Poppy - seems so ugly and blowsy! People call their grandfathers that.
Becky - dated but I think it's the best nick for Rebecca.
Dolly - self-consciously retro, seems like a pseud. I guess it could work but it'd be a curiosity.
Dotty - also a little too retro to seem natural, but I don't mind it as a nick for Dorothy / Dorothea
Netty / Nettie - ugly and seems antiquated like Hattie and Hettie
Nelly / Nellie - hm, it's OK. not my style though.
Penny - I like Penny, it's about like Polly. I think it could be a full name.
Elly / Ellie - it's fine, but so forgettable and lightweight unless it's a nick.
Tilly / Tillie - like Dotty, works as a nick for Matilda.Another one - Betty / Bettie. I like it. I think it's similar to Polly, Dotty, and Penny. I also like Peggy. Patty is eh.- mirfak

I forgot about both Betty and Hattie!I actually know babies with those names. They are less than a year old right now. Both named after Grandmothers though.
