Name to go with...
I'm writing a story and I had a character named Joseph nn Joss, but it's come to my attention that I don't think it works for him.
Biblical name seems misplaced because it's a fictional land, but imagine it as a 1700s/1800s UK.Other male characters are named:Granville
Willoughby
Tate
Benedict
Llewellyn
Any other names with these vibes you can offer? Thanks!

I think Joseph works fine if he is a member of the blue collar class. That was typical in that time period. If you still don't like it, try these:Amherst
Barnaby
Bellamy
Beaumont
Bertrand
Bramwell
Edmund
Ellingham
Elliston
Emersby
Farquhar
Farramund
Farenorth
Ferdinand
Gilchrist
Hamilton
Hawthorn
Ingram
Kendrick
Noll
Laurence
Laurent
Leighton
Maitland
Maxwell
Graham
Mayfair
Meriwether
Milburn
Montrose
Mortimer
Nelson
Noland
Philpot
Sinjin
Quincy
Summerfield
Tarquin
Thaddeus
Torrence
Traherne
Winston

Sinjin in those times would have been spelt St. John (like Sinclair would have been St. Clair). It's unusual but still used, in the UK at least. My father's middle name as a matter of fact...

Yah, you're right. Although it is still pronounced like Sinjin and I figured since she said the land was a fantasy land, it would be okay to also tweak names a little bit.

Good point. I do like how stuffy and Victorian St. John looks as a name though :)

If you want to call him Joss, why not Jocelyn instead? Fits in with the Georgian/Victorian theme
