Names of Peter the Great's siblings
I've been reading a lot on Russian royalty lately, so I decided to post this. Here are the names of the many siblings of Russian tsar Peter the Great. His father Alexei had a total of 16 children by two wives.Note that with many of the names, there are more than one transcription (for example, Ekaterina can also be transcribed Yekaterina). I'm going with the spellings used on Wikipedia. Here they are:Alexei's children by his first wife, Maria Miloslavskaya (who died giving birth to the last child).
Dmitri (1648-1649)
Yevdokia (1650-1712)
Marfa (1652-1707)
Alexei (1654-1670)
Anna (1655-1659)
Sofia (1657-1704) - regent for her younger brothers Ivan and Peter
Ekaterina (1658-1718)
Maria (1660-1723)
Fyodor (1661-1682) - Tsar Feodor III of Russia
Feodosia (1662-1713)
Simeon (1665-1669)
Ivan (1666-1696) - Tsar Ivan V of Russia
Yevdokia (1669-1669)Alexei's children by his second wife, Natalya Naryshkina:
Peter (1672-1725) - Peter the Great is usually known by the English form of his name; in Russian he'd be Petr, Piotr, or Pyotr
Natalya (1673-1716)
Fyodora (1674-1677)Which names do you like?

Replies

Dmitri -adore, adore
Yevdokia -nope, nms
Marfa -too old fashioned for me, but maybe it was cool at the time?
Alexei -I love this name. I'm about to name a character of mine this (sibling to Vitaly, Valentyna, Nikita, Natalia, & Anastasia).
Anna -cute, but not amazing
Sofia -Very nice.
Ekaterina -I used to like this more than I do now.
Maria -While the Russian pronunciation is cooler than any others, it's still not a name I would use.
Fyodor -I like it, but I LOVE "Fedya."
Feodosia -I was starting to think I was the only person who would ever mention this name on this site. It's in my Top Ten. (See my sig?) It's the name of the mother of the characters mentioned above. Adore, adore.
Simeon -neutral
Ivan -dislike. This is definitely a big mustache name. I can't see past that.
Yevdokia -They really liked it if they used it twice. I can't say that same about my feelings for it.Peter / Pyotr -Like, bu don't love.
Natalya -LOVE LOVE. Also love Natasha and Nata.
Fyodora -You'd think about both Fyodor and Feodosia, they'd give this name a rest, but of course not. I like all the forms they used though.

I like Ivan, Fyodor, Marfa and Anna.Is there any explanation why they used Yevdokia two times (even when the first one was still alive)?

The Tsars of Russia were a colorful family. I like the names Peter, Dmitri (although I prefer other spellings), Anna, and Maria. Natalya is interesting. It is more authentic looking than Natalia, which is how her name is sometimes Anglicized.
