Tristan
What are your thoughts on the name Tristan? What would you pair it with? How do you feel about it for a girl?

It sounds like a lion's name.

I used to really love this name, until I watched Stardust. Listening to it over and over again made me realize how simpering and gratingly precious it was, and it turned me right off it. For that reason I don't like it for a boy or a girl, it makes my skin crawl either way.

I know a Tristan. He's a tall handsome guy, smart & friendly, and has a sense of humor and honour. Pretty perfect really. I couldn't think of a better association. For a girl Trista - which I like too.

I like it alright, had a crush on it for a while, but it never quite made my favorites. Something slightly cold about it? Maybe the pair of T sounds is too much for me (I don't like a lot of "crisp" or hissy sounds especially in guynames)? I dunno.I've seen both boys and girls Tristan, and I feel like it's a tad cringe for a girl, I don't like it. But usable, because it got used. Seems to be basically a replacement for Kristen for some people... but to me it sounds very masculine. I guess because I'd been thinking about it as a guy-name since before it started to become popular.I think it's interesting how its popularity has dropped so fast recently. I wonder why. Tristan Marshall, Tristan Valentine, Tristan Robert, Tristan Conrad maybe

It's nice and all, but nothing I'd use. I'd pair it with something like Vincent, Gabriel, Elian, Isidor.
It's only a masculine name and I would vomit if I heard of a girl names this.

I like it pretty well. Tristan Patrick? Tristan James? Tristan Blake?I have seen it on a girl, years ago. She was maybe two and all bundled up in winter clothes and I could barely tell the front of her from the back, let alone if she was a girl or boy. Her mother introduced her just as "this is Tristan." I assumed it was a boy and referred to her as he, and was quite snippily corrected with rolled eyes and a sigh. Well sorry, lady, but it was truly an honest mistake and you might have thought about the possibility before you picked the name for a girl if that kind of mistake was going to bother you so much or apparently happen so often.
So no, I don't like it on a girl. It sounds an awful lot like Kristen too, which could lead to mistakes in the other direction.
