Means "to think of a man" from the Greek element ανδρος (andros) "of a man" combined with μηδομαι (medomai) "to think, to be mindful of". Andromeda is a constellation in the northern sky which gets its name from a mythical Greek princess who was rescued from sacrifice by Perseus. This name was also given to the nearest galaxy beyond our own.
