Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, the heir presumptive to the throne of Austria. His assassination by Gavrilo Princip on June 28, 1914 in Sarajevo was a trigger for World War I.
Franz Ferdinand, the indie rock band from Glasgow took the name after the Austrian Archduke.
