This is my name and honestly, I don't like it. Not many people in my grade have the name except one. I kinda wished I had a name like Melissa or Natalie. I'm sure in the future I would love my name how it is, but when people say it, they say it aggressively, Mu-shell with the Mu- part very aggressive or like a cow, Moo-shell. Like don't hold the Mu- part make it quick and smooth.

My twin sister's name is Michelle. I love the name. The name is soft, graceful, and romantic. She is a shy and sensitive girl, yet very strong. We have had many rescued pets because they see the love Michelle has for animals and follow her home. Michelle also loves to read, watch shows about adventure, and spend time with her family. This is such a charming name! Would never use it here in Poland but I find it very appealing when used in the languages in which it actually works well and the pronunciation is more obvious. I get it that it probably is getting rather dated in the US, and I know only Michelles above the age of 30, but to me it sounds so youthful nevertheless, and I'd love to see it come back. I think it has such a great nickname potential, and actually ages really well. I like lots of Michael related names, and especially the feminine forms. I like the way Michaela looks but I don't like the way it sounds in English, especially with the abundance of all sorts of spellings. Meanwhile, Michelle sounds so soft and pleasant. It makes sense to pronounce it like mi-SHELL in English, not mee-SHELL like many people do, but I prefer the mee-SHELL version. I like the Beatles song and have a lot of pleasant associations with this name. My own cat is called Misha (MEE-shah and he is a male) and I tend to like this Mish sound very much, it's so cute and funny. My main synaesthetic association with the name Michelle is a shell, both in Polish which is my mother tongue and in English this name really sounds like a shell. In Polish shell is muszelka (moo-SHEL-kah) and the only Michelle I know personally often goes either by Miszelka or Muszelka. And I like the English nickname Shell or Shelly for it. Micha/Misha, Michy/Michi/Mishie and most others I can think of are great as well. I've recently come across a Swedish Youtuber called Michelle who says her nickname that she often goes by is Michan (I'm not sure how she spells it but it's like MEE-shan) which just melted my brain, so cute! I think the Michele spelling looks a bit worse and kind of negligent, but maybe it's that in my mind Michele is much more the Italian form of Michael than a form of Michelle and it creates some disharmony, I don't know, I just prefer the original spelling. I'd love to see Michelle coming back in the English-speaking countries.
When I think about a person named Michelle, I can imagine her any age, but at a first glance I see her as a teenager, some 15 years old or so. She is tall, has a rather curvy, full figure but is by no means fat. She has dark blonde/light brown, long, thick, straight hair, I see it in a ponytail, a full-cheeked face, dark blue, big eyes with long lashes.
This is just how I imagine a Michelle, not how I think all Michelles are or should be. Neither of the Michelles I know is exactly like this.

Michelle sounds very pleasing to my ears and contrary to all the other comments that declare it as a “common” name, it is far from it. I named my only daughter Michelle over 30 years ago and it's still a good, solid and pretty classic-sounding name for her as she's now a mother herself. It always seemed right when she was in school, then got promoted into management levels at work and now as a busy mom of twins. Her favorite nickname that she still uses is Michy which her late grandfather used to call her. I had thought of so many other names when I was expecting her, but in the end Michelle felt just right for her. I chose a four letter middle name to balance out the length of that first name too. My step-sister had suggested the name Michelle originally to me and when, a few years later, she was expecting a girl she named her Rachel which was my choice for her daughter's name. The girls grew up spending time together getting along very well. Ah memories, lol.

Why is this such a rare name nowadays? Out of all the people my age I've met, only one of those people has the name Michelle... and it's just their middle name! I guess people just thought it was too common, so people started to use it less. But that means that you won't get chastised if you name your child this, as it's not common anymore!

Michelle is my middle name, and I really like it - and the nickname Shelley, which is also an independent name. I often wish that I had insisted upon going by either Michelle or Shelley, instead of my first name, Paula. That said, it would be difficult to get used to having a name that is so much more popular than the one I am accustomed to. For my own generation, Michelle was definitely super popular. It's not a classic, blue-blood name, but you can find it in all of the other classes. Lately, a number of Hispanic families have been naming their daughters Michelle, and it's twin, Denise.

You can go by Micky. My good friend is named Michelle but goes by Micky.

This is my name, and it's cool. It goes well with my mom's name, which is my middle, and makes it more unique when I provide the full name. There were maybe two to four other Michelles in my school. I'd have rather been given the rare name of my great-grandmother that was considered for me (Theodora; could've been called Dory and been the absolute only one in the school!), but, I'm happy with my parent's choice. I mean, it's not a super-favorite of mine aside from belonging to me, but it could have been so much worse. XD You get the "Michelle, My Belle" and the Full House references, and I've been nicknamed Michelin, Mike, Michelob, etc. Nothing too bad.
