A famous bearer is Patty Duke, Academy Award winning actress. Patty got really famous with "The Patty Duke Show" (1963-1966) and with the role of Neely O'Hara in "Valley of the Dolls" (1967).
Actually both Patty and Patsy were in frequent use as female names in the USA centuries before Patricia was in use. In the 1600s and 1700s these were pet forms of Martha, just as Peggy was a pet form of Margaret and Polly was a pet form of Mary. [noted -ed]
Patty Boyd, wife of both George Harrison and then Eric Clapton. Inspiration for the songs "something" and "Layla". Not wife to both at the same time, obviously.
My dog is called Patti (not Patty) and I think it is really cute on her! It's really hard to imagine this name on girl! Patti is great for pets though!
