My daughter is named Viviane (different spelling).

What a handsome name for a boy! I love it. A semi-famous male bearer of this name (although with a different spelling) is Vyvyan Wilde/Holland, Oscar Wilde's second and youngest child.
I really like the name Vivian for a boy, however it's considered to be quite feminine so I would probably only use this as a middle name. In France, the name Vivien is used for boys.

This is a name often attributed to the Lady of the Lake in Arthurian legend.
Vivian Vance played Ethel Murtz on the show "I Love Lucy."

In Spanish, this name is Vivián. :)

Heh. It's kinda weird going online and seeing so many comments on my name, but whatever. Personally, if I could, I would change my name. I hate my name.
With the spelling "Viviane" (this is my favorite, but it isn't on this site) it is the name of a main character in several of Rebecca Wells' books, including Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Her nickname is "Vivi".
I love Vivian but for a boy quite unfortunately. If I have any children in the future I'm certain (from now anyhow) to use it. Still, I enjoy the name.
I am surprised that no one mentioned the wonderful actress of the 40's and 50's Vivian Blaine. She portrayed Emily Edwards in the 1945 version of State Fair and Miss Adelaide in the 1955 version of Guys and Dolls opposite Frank Sinatra (the most timeless singer of them all!).
This name sounds very harsh and mean on an adult, and bratty and spoiled on a kid. I hope I don't offend anyone with this name, but this is one of the many V names I don't like.
To me, this name is absolutely and totally feminine, and I cannot imagine it on males. I watched the hilarious Young Ones back in the summer of 2001, and quite frankly, I didn't think Vyvyan was the real name of the character. I thought he had used a feminine name to be unconventional and to piss people off, and spelled it wrong to be even more unconventional and to piss people off a bit more. I guess I was wrong. I don't really like the name much, as it's got two 'v's coming so soon after one another, and the name sounds so elitist and snobby somehow. That would also have been another annoyance factor for people in Vyvyan's name in the Young Ones, but if the name was common on males, well, that sort of ruins at least some of the idea.
On the US drama show "Without A Trace" Vivian is one of the main characters. She is an FBI agent who has a very well rounded personality. She seems to be the main glue to her team showing sincere care and concern for everyone yet she never hesitates to speak the truth.
My little sister's name is Vivian. She is the only one I have ever met. I love her name. It's so sweet on a little girl, but it sounds like a professional name, too. :)
I love this name. I don't like when people say it should be a masculine name only. Vivian is unimaginable on males nowadays. Still, it sounds very pretty on a girl.
This name sounds feminine to me... as in, usable on a girl. I just can't get past the fact that the form of this name is technically male. The feminine form would be Viviana or Vivienne.
America's most beloved actress, Vivian Vance, who played Ethel Mertz on I Love Lucy, was a famous bearer of this name, which is as lovely as she was. I LOVE VIVIAN VANCE!
Vivian is a strong yet delicate, sensitive, sweet and feminine name. I think it has far too much femininity to be used on a male, especially since I ALWAYS think of Vivian Vance first and foremost when I hear this name. Vivian Vance was often referred to as 'Viv,' which is very cute. I like to call her Vivie, though. No one else ever called her that, so it's my special name for her. And it sounds so, SO sweet! This is quite possibly the most beautiful name I have ever heard and if I ever have a daughter, I am certain to name her Vivian Roberta.
Vivian Harmon was a character on the American television series "Maude".

Vivian is one of my favorite names. It's so elegant and feminine, and oozes 1920's charm. That's the first thing I think of when I hear it. Vivienne is also a very pretty alternate spelling, but I prefer the original (Vivian).
I don't think it fits at all for a boy, though. There's nothing about this name that is handsome and masculine at all.
I love the name Vivian for either a boy or a girl, and prefer this spelling for both, as Vivienne looks crowded. I wish people weren't so hung up on gender expectations, so what if a boy has a soft, whispery name, it's beautiful. Men can be beautiful too. :)
American football quarterback Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bündchen have a daughter named Vivian Lake Brady, born on December 5, 2012 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Vivian is a lovely name, and I would seriously consider giving it to my daughter, if I ever had one... but you probably shouldn't name a boy this. It's so pretty and feminine. "Adrian" is a similar masculine name you could use, but not Vivian.

I know 2 people my age named Vivian, so I think it's making a comeback! I hadn't really thought about this name until I met the first Vivian, and I realized how beautiful of a name it is! Viv and Vivi are adorable nicknames :)

I love that this name means "alive". If I had a child who almost died at birth, I'd name him Vivian. Probably as a middle name though, since people seem to think it's only a female name. I reckon it looks better on boys though.
