[Opinions] Sterling...for a girl?
My friend who likes the names Phoebe and Nymphadora for girls, and Addison for a boy, was thinking of names for two characters for a story, and enlisted my help. She needed a male and female name, and I suggest Sterling, under the impression she knew I meant it for the male. She said, "That's such a pretty name for a girl! I love it!"
My reply, "Uh, it's for a boy."She thinks it's too girlie for a boy, and I think it's much too masculine for a girl. Well, it'll be used as the woman's name in her story. And, the man's name in the story is Debonair (not my idea).I had suggested Sterling for the man, and Anita for the woman. Just thought I'd share. :)Edit 1: More comments.
Edit 2: Spelling.
Edit 3: Added a word.

Hey there! I like it for a girl and a boy, but better for a girl because it seems kind of trendy and childish on a boy. It's funny because my cousin was trying to think of a boyish name for a girl in a story she was writing, and I suggested Sterling to her... She ended up going with Reese, though, which I don't really like on a girl but oh well!~SHILOH~

I don't see it as a boy's name. Sterling silver? it seems very feminine to me, along with any other jewel name. You wouldn't name a boy Ruby or Amber. I hope not, anyway.

It's masculine imo

I know I'm in the minoritybut I love the name Sterling for a girl! I don't care for it at all on a boy and I have yet to see where it has worked on any boy I've known, whereas it totally suits the little girl I know. Her name is Sterling Faith & she's gorgeous.

It is my personal opinion, but I prefer Sterling on a boy, and is not really my style on a girl. Sorry!

STERLING BELONGS ON A BOY....*ahem* I'm sorry..that probably hurts your eyes. But I'm serious! Sterling is a boy name! Boy name!!
I was going to name Harmony, Sterling had she of been a boy.
As Elinor said it's pro. STAIR-ling here(Scotland), but it's not a big difference.-Seda*

Actually, I sort of like Sterling for a girl, Starling would also be nice. My brother had a friend in school named Sterling who was a boy.

I like Sterling for a girl. I wouldn't use it though, because I've realised that with virtually every accent (not mine) it is pronounced STUR-ling rather than STAIR-ling, which I don't like nearly as much._____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

My little brother has twins in his class named Sterling and Stetson. I love them both, but for boys only. I would NEVER name a girl Sterling.

I don't like it for either sex, really--but I'd rather see it on a girl. On a boy, it reminds me of an icky kid I knew.I think Nymphadora is fun, if a bit too Harry Potter for the real world. It'd make a cool middle name, if nothing else. Joan Nymphadora. Elise Nymphadora. Suzette Nymphadora.Nice and odd. :)Array

Heh. It merits a blink or two on a girl, but it reminds me of Starling... used to know a very nice girl named that. I guess I don't see why not; it's pretty-sounding. (insert something clever here)
