[Opinions] Artemisia
This name has been on my mind for a while. What do you think? I also love Artemis, but my taste tends to lean toward the more frilly girls' names, so I slightly prefer Artemisia. Do you like these names, and which form do you prefer? Thanks! :-)

I LOVE both Artemis and Artemisia. Artemis is my favorite mythological character as well. I think that I prefer Artemis though. Artemisia is just slightly too frilly my own personal taste : )

Both are absolutely wonderful. I've preferred Artemisia, but am now leaning a bit towards Artemis.

I don't care for either, sorry. Artemis sounds masculine to me, and Artemisia sounds like one is trying too hard, if that makes sense.

I don't think I'd use either one on a little girl, perhaps of a pet or story character. I think I like Artemis better because it's easier to pronounce, but it does sound rather masculine.Image hosted by Photobucket.comBunny, Gigi, Chloris, Wilma, Darleen, Eartha

Sounds like amnesia to me. And really, why is there even a feminine derivitive of a masculine derivitive of a feminine name anyway? Why didn't they just stick with the original feminine? But I digress. Hey, at least when the Anciet Greeks derived name elaborations it didn't become Artemiselle!:)

Um... there is no masculine deritivite of Artemis.Whre did you get that? Artemis is the original name of the Greek Goddess, which just used most often for men for some reason. Artemisia is merely an elaborate form of it.

There aren't any on this site. But there is the Greek male name Artemas and the Latin equivalent Artemus, which are derived from the goddess name. It's probably through confusion with those that "Artemis" has been given to men._____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

I think...... Jen was referring to Artemisios, which is in Artemisia's hyperlink. I've always simply considered Artemisia an elaborated form, though.
