What do you guys think of Fern? I never liked it until a few months ago, when I surprised myself by putting it in combos, and now I dig it a lot.

Fern was moderately popular in the late 70s / early 80s in Australia, so I had a few friends named Fern growing up. I adore it.

I like it.
I think it's going to be coming into fashion relatively soon, along with Jean, Leonard, Kenneth and the like.
It was actually my grandmother's name - she spelt it Ferne. Her middle name was Gladys. Her sisters were Ruth and Jeanette, her brother was Wallace.
I really dig Fern Jeanette, though I've been having a long-time love affair with Jeanette for some time.

Definitely girl! I like it as a mn, but it sounds a bit, well, furry for everyday use. And I've got a colleague called Fernanda who is known sometimes as Fern, sometimes as Fernie; so it could lead to a lifetime of explanations.

It really surprised me when I started liking it. It's sort of a random name. But it's just so fresh and green and full of energy!

I quite like the name Fern myself. I've never met anyone with the name and it doesn't really get talked about that much either. I would be lovely to meet a little girl named Fern. I'd be quite excited actually.

When I first saw Charlotte's Web when I was three or four years old I immediately really loved the name Fern. And Templeton. And I would watch that movie all the time, and one day I was watching it with my mom and I said "I think Fern is a pretty name" and she said "FERN?!?!" and then she hit me with a fly swatter. Okay she didn't really hit me with a fly swatter. But yeah I was really disappointed because she thought it was really ugly but I still like it so w/e

I don't like it. Meaning aside, it doesn't sound attractive and it makes me think of a middle-aged, unpleasant lady.

I like it a lot.
It is my great-grandmother's name, as I have mentioned. She was La Fern Mary (Mary after her mother), but did not use the "La" prefix, which was trendy at the time. She also had a twin sister named Laverne (not sure about that spelling), who died young. She did pass the "La" on to her daughter, La Rene (pronounced REEN) though.

I've always liked nature inspired names and Fern is very ethereal for me. Good choice.

It's fresh and sweet but not too cutesy. Not common but not unheard of either. I tend to put it in the middle name spot but I'm rethinking it as a first name.

I like it. It's nice and sagey and shy and adorably frumpy. And it's my great grandmother's middle name. I stuck it in a combo once for fun. Susannah Fern, I think it was?

It is so lumpy and mossy and quiet and bookish and wonderful. It's like a little smooth rock on a path. It's cool without yelling and screaming about it.
This name has rocketed up to my number one spot after I realized that it has a lot of symbolic meaning for me. I am going to try to keep it up there without getting bedazzled by louder cool names.
