I like it, but I pronounce it MAYV rather than MEEV. I would probably use Evie as a nickname, just because I use any excuse to use Eve or Evie, I love it!
I find that Maeve goes well in the middle name spot - it's more interesting than May but still easy to pair.
As a first name, I would put it with a more complex middle name. Here are some ideas:
Maeve Juliana
Maeve Cassiopeia
Maeve Leilani
Maeve Ramona
Maeve Caitriona
Maeve Henrietta
Maeve Hermione
Maeve Wilhelmina
Maeve Josefina
Maeve Lilibet
