No, I don't think so.
Ella is trendy, not so much popular. It's overused, and is appearing on zillions of message boards.
Sofia, while popular, has been popular for a few years. It is trendy, but hasn't appeared out of thin air.
Elizabeth is a classic that has been popular for decades.
Marie isn't popular at all as a first name, but is extremely popular (along with
Grace,
Rose,
Lynn, and
Anne) as a middle name.
I, and most other people, find that both
Ella and
Emma are horribly overused. This doesn't make them bad names. They're perfectly nice names.
What really gets me about
Ella is that it's nicknamey. Due to a brain splat, I didn't mention that in my post *headsmack*.
