I voted for Hermione Clarisa on both polls. I love, love the idea of Alice and Hermione as sisters. They are such a natural sounding duo. :0)
I pronounce Mione more as two syllables, with a very quick schwa in the middle, more like, "MIE-uh-nee." I think you could even get by with Minnie as a nn for Hermione. How cute would Alice and Minnie be?
As for the HP angle, I'm old enough to have other associations than the HP books / movies. But I do get that the generation she grows up in will be more influenced by it. I still think it's worth using. The HP association isn't a bad one. It's just you that will have to get over the (incorrect) feeling that everyone thinks you are just going along with a fad. You know you aren't. Your friends and family know you aren't. Your dd will know you didn't. In the end, that's all that matters, right?
