[Opinions] Maxwell
I was at a doctor's office and heard a toddler being called Maxell - gender unknown. What do you think?

I really like Maxwell, but only for a boy.

I always hear the word "swell" in it. Max swell. Yuck. So I can't like it all that much (and I think it'd be particularly bad as a female name). It's also too surnamey for my taste, sort of pretentious. But I like Max, and Maxwell isn't as bad as Chase or Cooper. Better as a middle name, though, IMO.For a girl: Maxuelle. haha

Maxwell just makes me think ' Get Smart' and I still think it's horrid on a girl. I prefer Maxfield (for Parrish).

Freaking MAXWELL is going over to the girl's side now? What's next, Wolfgang??? Oh wait. You know what? I'm just going to name my next daughter McTestosterone and beat everybody to the punch. It's okay, if you don't mind coffee and sanitary pad references. FOR A BOY.

I'm sure McTestosterone has already been taken by a few girls ;)

HouseIt just feels really generic, plastic, and sterile to me. I don't care for it

I'd assume Maxwell was a boy. I dislike it (not keen on any of the 'Max' names, but this is my least favourite) but I just can't imagine it on a girl

I dislike the -well part and prefer Maximilian.

Your subject says Maxwell and message Maxell, which I'm assuming was the typo and not the other way around.I've always liked Maxwell. It's probably my favorite Max name, and it's been on our long list to use IRL before. This is for a boy of course. I didn't know we should even consider that a Maxwell may be a girl... yikes!

Some celebrity (Jessica Simpson?) named her daughter Maxwell and I've seen it in at least one BA for a girl. That doesn't necessarily make it a good choice... What's wrong with Maxine?

I don't like Maxine, I only think of the old lady comic.I will admit I don't loathe the idea of Max alone on a girl. It sounds very flapper-tastic.

It would be nice to hear Maxine.

I like it, but prefer just Max or Maximilian.

I really don't like any Max names. It's fine, less pretentious than some of the other options, better for a boy than a girl. I was going to say I knew a Maxwell growing up, but he was Michael and just went by his last name.

I like it. We have a sweet little Maxwell at our preschool, and I enjoy saying his name. Fun sounds to say. :)

I like it, though, IMO, it works better for a girl than for a boy.

I love Maxwell, and I always have. It's always been one of my favorite boys' names. Glad to hear of a little Maxwell. If my husband had not wanted our son to be named after himself and his paternal ancestors, Maxwell would have been a strong contender for my son's name. I love the nn Max. I prefer Maxwell to Maximilian. Less stuffy.
