[Opinions] Leanne
I met a Leanne today. WDYT? I actually kind of like this particular spelling of the name. It doesn't look forced to me, like LeAnn or Leighanne do.

I wrote a column on Leanne back in 2011. I was quite surprised in looking at census records to discover this is a name which is much older than I thought. It was already being regularly used in the USA well before the Civil War. I think it is probable that Leanna and Leanne in English were originally short forms of Julianna/Julianne and so respellings of Liana and Liane rather than created by merging Lee and Ann. Leanna was fairly common before Lee was used as a girl's name.

I don't like it but I think Leanna could grow on me.

It's pretty in a way, better than Lee Anne (first and middle name or Lee-Anne as a compound name. But I like Leanna more.Leanna would be a better first name whereas Leanne sounds like it's stuck in the middle name spot. Most names with -anne have that problem for me.

I like it. It's one of those combination names I actually enjoy.

I really haven't come across too many Leanne's in my life. As a small child one of my dad's athletes (he was a coach) was a Leanne and she was the first one I ever met. She wore very heavy blue eyeshadow to the point where it distracted from her eyes themselves. Now to be fair it was fashionable to wear blue eyeshadow in that time and place but even so, whenever I hear this name as a first name I usually imagine women in the specific demographic of 10-15 years older than I of which this Leanne resides, as well as heavy eye makeup. That and it is slightly dated in terms of first names at this point. But I do quite like it as a middle name still. It's a fun and musical bridge in the middle spot.

Leanne really does not appeal to me at all. Granted, LeAnn and Leighanne are worse, but that isn't enough to turn me on to Leanne. It looks lazy and messy now; perhaps when it was new it might have had a stylish feel, but that's long gone.

It's alright. Seems circa '60s-'70s, to me, and in the same style vein as Suellen, Lynette, Janelle. I feel like it is kinda bland.
I once knew sisters born in the early sixties, who were named Leanne and Lynell.
I agree with you about the spelling. Leanne and Liane are the only spellings I like.

I know a 50ish Louanne with a sister Suellen! A solid South African family.

It's pretty nice it.

I find it limp and dated.

It's my mother's middle name.
I think it's okay, but very country and very mid-20th century. It seems to be really popular on women about fifty years old here in Delaware.
