As some predicted, Claire and Cal’s relationship did not stand the test of time. After a couple of years spent enjoying the Mediterranean sun together, Claire grew rather tired of her boyfriend, and the two split up, with him returning to England and her staying on France’s south coast. Francesco and Marlene, on the other hand, got married after a few years together, with Rhea as a bridesmaid — she gets on much better with her stepmother than she ever did with her mother.
At the urging of Safa, who was aware that she did not have forever to have children, she and Thomas got married and started trying for a baby. When they conceived, they got two for the price of one, and welcomed a twin son and daughter. Coline was excited to have siblings, although she has proved herself to be more interested in her horse, with whom she competes at a national level, than in the babies.
Not long after the twins’ birth, Rhea announced that she and August had eloped and hyphenated their surnames (with the implication that they did so to avoid having Claire at the wedding), and were expecting a son. Rhea has now published several books on art history, aimed at a general audience, and these have proved popular enough to warrant signings and talks and bookshops across the UK.
