Thoughts on Sloane? I like it on a boy than I do on a girl. However, the Irish meaning isn't all too great, plus there's also the toilet company (Sloan). I wouldn't use it, but its a guilty pleasure...BoysSloane WilliamSloane AugustSloane Gabriel

Ferris Bueller’s day off…Anyway, I don’t think it’s a bad name. But slimy and serpentine. SLOONE. I’m just not a fan, and I don’t like it on either gender. Maybe a tad better for a girl.I also agree with erb when she says it’s not exactly a “pretty girl” name. More of those names parents use when they want something more rough.

Do Sloane Rangers still haunt the streets of Kensington and Chelsea, or have they been replaced by more up-to-date people? Either way, it's just not anything I'd want to be associated with or to name anyone after. That's fem only, of course: Sloane on a boy is just another lnfn.

I can't really picture Sloan on a boy / man, but on a girl / woman it's what I call a "powersuit name." RoxStar below gave an unfavorable review of Sloane when she said it belonged on Dynasty, but while I like Sloane more than she does... she's not wrong about the impression.Sloane isn't a pretty name, but it's for parents who aren't after a "pretty" name. It's in the same league as Veronica, Adrienne, Sheridan, Meredith, Rachel, Gretchen, and Claudia. Powersuit names.

I really don't like the way it feels on my mouth, I don't think it's visually pretty. I'm not sure why people use it, especially if the Irish meaning is lacking!

I really don’t like Sloane but I’ve heard it enough times that I’m sort of desensitized to it. It just has a really tired sound to it, like Doris or Eleanor. I know a lot of people like Eleanor but I really don’t like it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this is the ugliest name I've heard of.I like it marginally better on a boy than a girl, but it's still awful.

if we were given a challenge ...To give a pair of fictional siblings, brother and sister, "real world" ugly names, mine would be Sloane and Seth. Both have the most unpleasant sounds of any names that are getting common usage right now. Seth sounds like gagging or trying to spit something out, and Sloane just sounds slimy and self-satisfied.

I can't relate to you about Seth at all. None of the gagging or spitting motions my mouth and throat and tongue make are involved in any of the mouth motions of Seth. But, Sloane sounds like whatever Seth is trying to gag or spit up, sliding out like a slug

More like taking a mouthful of something very hot (temperature hot) and sticky so it's clinging to your tongue and the roof of your mouth like napalm and you're trying to get it off by spitting but with a lot of air behind it and rubbing your tongue out between your front teeth and lips.Sloane makes me think of someone who should have been on Dynasty; huge shoulder pads, million-dollar hair, dagger fingernails, veins full of liquid nitrogen.
